So, you may remember me mentioning at one point or another that I love books.
I do. I love them.
Always have, really. When I was a kid, I always preferred a new book over a new toy.
Yeah, I wasn’t a major nerd or anything.
Wait….do people still use the word “nerd”?
Okay, so maybe I still am one.
Anyways, a bunch of you told me that you’d love a monthly book suggestion. So here it is.
Right now, I am loving the Hunger Games series.
These books were introduced to me by my step-daughter, who incidentally, is NOT a reader. I’ve tried for years to get her to read, but it’s just not her thing.
She LOVES these books, though…and that’s really saying something.
Seriously, girl can barely pick her way through a Tiger Beat magazine.
I was a bit hesitant to read this series at first, because they are supposed to be for young adults. But once I started reading, I was totally sucked in by the story. And what I really love is that although it is a fairly fast read, it has substance.
Synopsis, courtesy of goodreads.com
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
The third book in the series, Mockingjay, came out this week and I’m already loving it. The first movie based on the series is set to release next year, so if you want to be an in the know person, you need to get reading.
I hope you love these books and if you have an older child, be sure to share these with them.
I’d love to hear your thoughts!!
Have a fabulous Friday!!
