Rumchata Chai Latte is the perfect drink to warm you up! It’s spicy, creamy, and comforting!
I’m not sure I’m going to survive Winter Break.
I mean, we all love to talk about how frustrating and exhausting and ridiculous toddlers are. Like yesterday Lucy wanted some ice water. So I made her a cup of ice water and handed it to her, only for her to wordlessly fall to the ground and start shrieking like she was on fire.
Was she on fire? Was she bitten by an invisible rabid animal? Did her body become inhabited by an angry demon fixated on destroying all of humanity?
I went over to investigate. And as it turns out, it was none of those things. She just wanted to get her OWN water and was upset that I did it for her. So there’s that.
But here’s the problem – older kiddos are just as difficult and frustrating, but in a different way. Sure, they no longer fall to the ground screaming and sobbing as if life as they know it has ended. But their feet aren’t cute and little anymore, they are big and stinky and their faces are super good at pouting.
Sometimes, after a particularly long and difficult day of breaking up fights over whose turn it is to use the red marker and why so-and-so changed the channel (pre-teens are not exempt from this behavior), I’ll pour myself a drink and put the kiddos to bed early.
“But why do I have to go to bed?” my son will ask. “I don’t have school tomorrow. And I’m not even tired at all.”
“Because,” I respond. “I need some quiet time to kiss your dad a lot without you stalking us.”
This works one million percent of the time. Trust me on this. All you have to do is mention kissing your husband and your older kids turn red and run out of the room.
But then instead of kissing their dad, I grab a magazine and pour an extra splash of Rumchata in my Chai Latte. Survival, friends. It’s a thing.
And if you happen to have a few cookies or a big slice of cake to go with that drink?
Well. I’m not mad about it. Pass the creamy peppermint pie, please.
