My Creamsicle Protein shake is perfect for those summer cravings! With 25 grams of protein and only 165 calories, there’s no guilt and you’ll stay full for hours!
Most people I know (women in particular) have a strong dislike for protein shakes. Several months ago, I would have agreed that I was definitely in the “not a protein shake person” camp, buttttt being kind of a “food person,” I decided to see what could be done.
As it turns out, protein shakes can actually be very good, if you use protein powder that doesn’t have a zillion calories or taste like garbage. I have also found that using a blender helps TREMENDOUSLY with the texture, which is kind of a shame because I bought the cutest shaker bottle and now it’s collecting dust in the bottom of the cabinet I call The Tupperware Graveyard.
Can we all agree that the weird, grainy, “protein texture” is the WORST? It legit makes my mouth feel like it’s coated in fine sand. But blending protein powder with almond milk makes a WORLD of difference, and if you use the unsweetened almond milk, you’re only adding 45 calories to the situation.
What even IS 45 calories? One M&M? Who knows, it’s basically air.
The hardest thing about making changes to my diet has been the sugar cravings. Like the fact that I’m still married after weaning myself off the bulk of my sugar intake is a gosh dang miracle. It’s rare that I legitimately feel deep sympathy for my husband, but my first week off of Sour Punch Straws wasn’t pretty for anyone and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
Thankfully, protein shakes are great for sugar cravings. They’re just sweet enough to take the edge off, and they are SO filling that they’re a perfectly acceptable meal substitute. When I’m headed out the door and need something that will get me by for a few hours, a protein shake is always the answer.
Clocking in right at around 165 calories and with 25 grams of protein, there’s no guilt involved in this creamsicle protein shake! This flavor is perfect for the warm weather cravings that hit when the sun starts peeking out — sweet and creamy with just the right amount of orange flavor.
Instead of using orange juice, which is usually full of sugar (which equals carbs) and requires a considerable amount to get enough flavor in the shake, I used water enhancing drops, which are zero calorie and can be found at just about any grocery store.
I hope you love this as much as I do!
