Butterfinger Brownies
These Butterfinger Brownies will be your new favorite! Fudgy and loaded with Butterfinger bits, they’re impossible to resist.
I stand under the hot spray of the shower head, lathering my hair with expensive, incredible-smelling shampoo. I take a deep breath, letting the water loosen the knots in my neck and shoulders, enjoying this rare, brief moment of peace.
I begin to rinse my hair — wait. That sounded like…yes. I turn the water down for a better listen.
Lucy is screaming.
I turn the water off completely and cock my head to the side. She’s screaming bloody murder – “MOM!! MOMMA!! MOM!!! PLEASE MOM!!!”
My heart racing, I hastily wrap myself in a towel and run towards the living room, sliding down the hall and leaving wet footprints in my wake. Soap streams into my eyes and I prepare myself by running through possible scenarios — she tried to do a cartwheel and impaled herself on the corner of the coffee table. She fell on a Lego and it imbedded itself in her right eye, leaving her partially blind forever. A masked gunman is attempting to break into our home.
I reach the living room, frantically scanning the area for puddles of blood, a ransom note, a lone eyeball rolling across the floor. Out of the corner of my eye, I spot my daughter sitting on the couch where I left her, holding up a graham cracker and examining it thoughtfully.
“Mom…” she begins, calm and oblivious to my state of panic. “Do you think that dogs like graham crackers?”
So that’s why I drink wine and eat brownies.
I’m particularly partial to brownies covered in candy, and these Butterfinger brownies are pretty darn amazing. Fudgy homemade brownies are loaded with crushed Butterfingers, then topped with a thin layer of fudgy frosting and more Butterfinger pieces.
Not trying to brag, but I’m pretty sure that these are your new favorite.
Ingredients
- 1 stick salted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup flour
- 3 (1.55 oz) milk chocolate bars, melted in the microwave (I'm not trying to tell you your business, but I used Hershey bars)
- 8 fun-size Butterfinger candy bars, crushed
- Frosting:
- 4 Tablespoons salted butter
- 2 heaping Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 Tablespoons whole milk
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 8 fun-size Butterfinger candy bars, crushed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350. Line an 8x8 square pan with foil and spray with nonstick baking spray. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk butter and cocoa powder together until cocoa is dissolved and mixture is thick. Stir in sugar until combined. Stir in eggs, mixing until combined. Add vanilla. Add flour, stirring just until no white streaks remain in batter. Fold in melted milk chocolate candy bars until combined. Fold in crushed Butterfinger pieces.
- Pour batter in prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with fudgy crumbs, but not raw batter. Let cool slightly, about 20 minutes.
- Prepare frosting. Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add cocoa powder and milk, whisking until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar until smooth.
- Working quickly, pour frosting over brownies, spreading evenly. Immediately top with crushed candy, patting gently to stick to the frosting. Let brownies cool, then refrigerate until firm. Slice and serve.
Enjoy, friends! Have a great day!

OMG!!! Were you recording me a few nights ago? Except replace Lucy with my son….Bang bang bang….”Mommy!!! Mommy!!! Mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Bang bang bang bang….”What? What? What is wrong?” “Can I text Jordan to ask him to play on the computer?”
“Do you not have a father? Can you not ask him?”!!!!
Ha ha ha ha….so great to be a mom….not….
Kristan, I made these 2 days ago. OMG!!!!! They are incredible!!! I made a slight “mistake” and used Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa for the Cocoa Powder in the Brownie recipe. I am assuming you meant for “regular” Cocoa Powder. I also added 1 tsp Instant Espresso Powder to the batter(it brings out the chocolate taste). I didn’t have an 8? pan; only 9? square and it worked fine.
Oh my, this made me laugh hard :) I feel your panic but still, it’s funny :)
About the brownies – a lot of butter and a lot of milk – these have to be good! :))

They were the darkest, most richest chocolate brownies that I ever had!!!! Just to be clear, I am a “Brownie Snob” and have made 100’s of Brownie recipes in my lifetime and these were really really good!!! They actually tasted better after sitting in the refrigerator 2 days. I guess the flavors needed time to develop and they MUST be eaten cold.
I am not sure if the Butterfinger candy bar pieces made a difference in the brownie part; they were not visible or distinguishable. There was no peanut butter or peanut taste other than from the topping. These pieces all melted into the batter. I would guess that any candy bar pieces or even chocolate chips would work in the batter.
This recipe will definitely be added to my “tried & true” handful of exceptional Brownie Recipes that I accumulated over 40+ years!!!!
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful recipe!!!
This honestly makes me SO happy, as I know how elusive the “perfect brownie” can be. My son is a brownie fanatic, so I’ve spent years trying to crack the code. Thank you so much for letting me know how much you enjoyed them. You made my day!
