One thing that a lot of people assume about bloggers is that we are all very computerey.
I assure you, this is not the case.
I am good at buying stuff on the internet. I can out-Google 9 out of 10 people. And those pictures that leaked of so-and-so or so-and-so (or sometimes…so-and-so WITH so-and-so)?
I can probably find them. Uh…not that I ever have.
But I am not good at technical stuff at all. The fact that I can log in to my site, type words and copy in links and pictures is a semi-miracle. And honestly, even that sometimes gives me a headache. Stuff goes wrong, or things delete themselves, and I go cry and eat myself into a Sour Patch Kids coma.
I’m seriously wondering if there might be another way to get my blog posts to people.
Notes? On notebook paper, folded up really cool with warnings like “4 UR EYEZ ONLY!!” would be mighty fine by me. Except for the pretty pictures would get all folded up, plus I’d have to find a speedy way of delivering them. No good.
Ooooh, or maybe I could do my posts in calligraphy on fancy parchment, have it rolled into a scroll, and delivered by an owl a la Harry Potter. Except for that I’m afraid of owls (One time, a huge moth was laying dead in my yard, and it’s wings looked like an owls face, so I thought maybe it was a weird alien owl and my son and I threw sticks and metal spoons at it from 10 feet away until my husband got home). So…I guess that plan is out too.
Telegrams could work. You could have my blog posts delivered daily to your door by a handy dandy Blog-O-Gram Reader. “I think a hobo lives in my attic STOP He has mini machine guns and knives STOP”.
That would be cool, yes? But I’d probably have to pay them and I doubt they accept Fruit Roll-Ups and licorice as payment.
So, I guess if I want to keep talking to you and showing you pictures of food, I have to learn to love my computer and not drop kick it to outer space. But just know that if you need to know about computerey stuff (besides where to find photos of so-and-so, or giving me money to shop online) I am the wrong person to come to.
However…there is a silver lining to this internet cloud. Because what I CAN do for you is show you tons of cool Halloween treats!!
Want to know how to make super creepy and completely yummy Witches Cauldrons?
Well, I’m so very glad that you asked.
First you need to make the chocolate cauldrons. I saw this method awhile back on Bakerella, who made Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding Cups from the book Sticky, Chewy, Messy, Gooey Treats for Kids by Jill O’Connor.
I used dark chocolate candy melts, colored with a bit of black candy coloring. You could also use black chocolate melts, or any color of your choice.
You need to blow up one balloon per cauldron. I used smallish balloons (from a variety bag at Hobby Lobby) and didn’t blow them up all the way. Just keep an eye on them and remember that however big they are on the top is how big the cauldron will be.
Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Wipe the balloons down with warm water and dry completely, then spray LIGHTLY with nonstick spray.
Melt your candy in a bowl according to package directions. Just eyeball it, you won’t need much but you want enough that you can dip the balloon in and coat it decently. Spoon a small blob of chocolate for each cauldron on the wax paper, spacing several inches apart. Then dip the bottom of each balloon in the chocolate, just as far up as you want the cauldron to go. Stick the balloons to the blobs of chocolate on the wax paper.
Basically, they should look like this.
Place them in the fridge to set. Once they’ve hardened, pop the balloons and peel them off. Keep the cauldrons in the fridge while you prepare the pudding.
I made a small box (3.4 oz) of instant vanilla pudding and colored it with green. One box of pudding filled six cauldrons. Add some mini marshmallows, sugar eyes, or candy bones to make it extra creepy.
See how easy?
Make sure to keep these in the fridge until close to time for serving.
I bought the bloody candy bones at Target, and you can purchase royal icing eyes HERE at Sweet! Baking Supply.
Hope you enjoy them!! Have a fabulous Monday.
