Snowman Cupcakes
Today I had to go to Walmart and buy two giant tins of popcorn.
You know, the ones that are divided into three different flavors.
Because along with various other toys and electronics (and a giant jar of pickles), my son and stepdaughter each asked for their own giant tin of popcorn for Christmas.
Apparently it has always been a dream of theirs.
Which I was thinking was totally weird, until I remembered that I asked for the same thing four years ago.
That was the year after I asked for sea monkeys and an ant farm, but the year before I asked for those Russian nesting dolls. With all the tiny ones inside.
Seriously, those things are stinkin’ awesome.
The tiniest one is like sooooo tiny, you can barely even see it.
And in case you’re wondering, I did receive and eat an entire tin of popcorn.
Also, an ant farm isn’t as cool as you would think. Plus, the ants don’t come with it, you have to fill out this order form and send away for them.
I’m still waiting for sea monkeys. I think the problem is that no one takes my gift requests very seriously anymore.
Of course, I turned thirty this year, so I decided it was time to get serious about Christmas presents.
Do you think that my husband will get me my own cotton candy machine?
I asked super nicely.
Maybe I should print out a list of prices and authorized dealers, just in case he needs a little help.
If all else fails, I will bribe him with cupcakes.
I just hope he doesn’t mind if they are decorated like snowmen.
Want to make your own snowman cupcakes?
You need:
Cupcakes, piped with white frosting.
If you need a good recipe, here is my buttercream tutorial. Since I piped it on so high, the recipe will only cover 12 cupcakes, so double it if you are making 2 dozen.
One top hat per cupcake.
To make the hat, I cut the bottom quarter off of a large marshmallow, and attached it to an Oreo with Candy Melts. Once the marshmallow was attached securely, I dipped the whole thing in melted Candy Melts (I used black, but you could also just use chocolate), sprinkled with white nonpareils, and set on wax paper to harden.
Candy eyes and a red gumdrop or cherry sour candy.
Candy eyes can be purchased at Bake It Pretty, or you can just use chocolate chips. I liked the red nose because it reminded me of Frosty, but you could also just make a carrot from orange Starburst or fondant.
Top the cupcakes with the hats, and press eyes and noses into the frosting.
These aren’t the fanciest, but they are cute, fun, and easy.
Perfect for a class party.
Have a wonderful weekend, it’s almost Chrismas!!
Oh my those are SOOOOOOO cute! I have left over eyes from the peanut butter eye balls I made for my sons Halloween party, so his class is now getting Frosty cupcakes for the Christmas party! Thanks for all the great ideas and all the laughs!
You do NOT want SeaMonkey's. NO!
Those cupcakes are so cute! You should submit them to Cindy from Skip to MY Lou for her online baking supply shop SWEET!
These are the most adorable cupcakes!! smiles :)
So darling! But I don't think that I could actually eat them…they're TOO cute!
Super cute and creative! Love it. And I love Russian Dolls too. My son has a set of Santa Claus styled one and the smallest one is of course my fav,
Funny! Love them:-)
Kristan…….seriously ……..you are my idol! LOVE these
I'm laughing about the popcorn tins because all day at work today I kept whining that we hadn't received one and I really wanted some flavored stale popcorn LOL
These cupcakes are awesome~ They're so fun looking! I bought sea monkeys for a friend a couple years ago.. they're kinda hard to find these days, I had to order them online! I'll cross my fingers for you and that cotton candy machine :)
THESE are adorable!!!
Adorable!
i used to LOVE those tins of popcorn, but the cheddar was definitely my favorite. adorable cupcakes!
I had sea monkeys once, I'm not a hundred percent sure but I think they got to a stage and started eating each other. Scary stuff for a nine year old! Your cupcakes look wonderful, I think they'd make an excellent bribe.
So darn cute!
Ok, if you get the cotton candy machine you will be sick of me! I LOVE me some cotton candy! Cute cupcakes! Now….I will have to buy some popcorn today!
I got sea monkeys one year. They are not all that they are cracked up to be. The cute little picture on the box…a blatant lie. They are these little ugly brine shrimp that die in about a month no matter how well you take care of them. just terrible I say.
A cotton candy machine would be the bomb. Could you even imagine all the possible posts you could have using the cotton candy! If they don't get it for you either go get one yourself or write the company and maybe they will gift one to you for blog worthy creations :O)
Super cute girl!! I will NEVER show this to my kids though, they will never let me rest until we have made a thousand.
Those are so stinking cute!! I bought my husband one of those popcorn tins for Christmas this year. He didn't ask for one, but the man loves popcorn, so I said, "What the heck!" And "fill out an order form for ants"?? I don't think so. Merry Christmas!
How cute are those?!
Wonderful job!
Love, love, love these! Will have to make these!
This is what you need,

Love it…. totally love it (your gift list and your cupcakes)!
Awww. Well look at that. Kristan did something perfect, AGAIN. Love!
Especially that little guy in the back on the right that is googly-eyed. I'm partial to that look.
OK…I'm going to try my comment again and this time will not close the window prior to it posting! ;)
I love, love, love your snowman cupcakes! I swear, girl, you never run out of creative ideas!
{Had to laugh about your kids asking for popcorn. It reminded me of this: When kiddo was almost 3, all he wanted for Christmas was a "chocolate house." He even asked the mall Santa for one. I guess he saw some gingerbread houses and thought they were chocolate. Anyway, Santa stayed up all night making a chocolate house with Hershey roof shingles, etc. Christmas morning, he looked at it for all of 2 seconds before pushing it aside to get to the TOYS! :) Hope you get a better reaction to the popcorn! ;)}
Kristan I linked these up to Christmas I'm Lovin' It Round Up!! thanks again!! http://tidymom.net/2010/im-lovin-it-christmas-round-up/
Deliziosi pupazzi di neve =) e golosissimo blog, complimenti!
Buona giornata
Sonia
I'm actually squealing! These are delightful.
These are the cutest little fellas! I just don't think I could eat him though. Too cute and all.
And for that popcorn, I totally get it. That's like the present everyone secretly hopes they get.
Super adorable! I love them!
These are so cute! Even though I'm hating on winter, I still want to make some!

Very creative. I am going to try these. Do you place the hats on right after you’ve piped the icing? Or do you wait for it to harden by leaving them in the fridge? Also, what # piping tool did you use?
(the buttercream icing I made is without egg white –son is allergic) so I am concerned that the hat will slip off because the icing does not harden as royal icing does).
I made these and they were a HIT. Took very long to make the hats though. I wish there was a way to cover them quickly with chocolate. See my Facebook page for the pictures! Thank you
what is candy melts
