If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw that I spent a few days in Destin, Florida last month.
I was lucky enough to be invited on a girl’s weekend at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, and it was EASILY one of the best trips of my entire life.
The resort hosted me and several of my blogger friends for a girls getaway, and I was honestly just so blown away. My family has not taken a vacation since I was pregnant with Lucy…traveling and toddlers is just so hard. So this was an amazing opportunity for me to get away. Destin has been a favorite vacation spot of ours for years and I was excited to experience the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
The entire trip was just so special. The Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort took such good care of us and the staff was the friendliest and most helpful I’ve ever encountered. The resort is perfectly located, with TONS of shopping and dining on site! I couldn’t believe all the adorable shops, activities, and restaurants right within walking distance. I mentally filed all that away for later — when you’re traveling with small kids, it’s nice to walk places and not constantly load and unload the car seat.
If you’re up for driving, Silver Sands Premium Outlets are about 3 minutes away. One of my favorite outlet malls of all time — you best believe I can do some damage in the Kate Spade Outlet! It’s also about a 5 minute drive to the Donut Hole, one of my favorite donut shops in the universe. Their Key Lime Donut is unbelievable.
Also? I got to spend lots of time with my bestie. It doesn’t get much better than shopping and the beach with your best friend.
We all stayed in a 2-story condo in the Lasata complex. There were 4 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, laundry room, and 2 living rooms. It was so beautiful and would be perfect for a family reunion or girl’s retreat!
The resort welcomed us on our first night with a beach bonfire and s’mores roast. This is a service you can book through the resort, and it was almost too good to be true. The sun was setting, the water was gorgeous, and someone stays on hand to keep the fire going for you. I kept thinking of what a blast my son would have making s’mores on the beach!
The next day we were treated to breakfast at the Sunset Bay Cafe. Again — mental notes for a return trip with the family, because OMG. We sat on the patio overlooking the ocean while we ate (!!!). They had Southern Fries –thick, spiral cut fries topped with white pepper gravy, pecanwood smoked bacon, and fried cheese curds. I mean, in live in Arkansas, so you best believe I know how to get down with some fries covered in white gravy. Done and done. After breakfast we headed upstairs for massages at the Sandestin Spa.
In case you didn’t know this about me, all I really need in life is gravy fries and a good back rub.
Afterwards, some of the girls took a YOLO boarding lesson. I decided that I’m more of a “watcher,” so I just laid back in my beach chair and critiqued them from a distance.
Trust me, it’s better this way.
Lunch was at the Marina Bar and Grill, overlooking the marina. There were tons of yummy lunch offerings and some really fun bar drinks. I had a Key Lime freeze that was SOOO good!
We went back to the condo to relax and prepare for dinner in the condo. Sandestin’s new Executive Chef, Javier Rosa, came in and prepared an incredible five-course meal just for us. We didn’t even have to dress up or go anywhere! Chef Rosa is originally from Puerto Rico, and has spent most of his career with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. He paired his dishes with selections from the Sandestin Wine Festival. Both the food and the drinks were just unforgettable. I’ve never experienced a meal like that in my life.
The next morning was breakfast at Another Broken Egg Cafe, (biscuit beignets, yes please) which is also in walking distance. We took a few hours to do some shopping at the Silver Sands Premium Outlets and then had a really great lunch at The Beach House. The Beach House was probably my favorite meal of the trip, and that’s saying a lot. The food was fun and creative, the location is right on the beach, the drinks are SO good, and the staff was above and beyond. Everyone was so nice, so helpful, and the attention to detail was just beyond. From their cups and plates to their decor and desserts, you can tell that a lot of thought has been put into this restaurant. I’ll most definitely be back!
Our last meal of the trip was at The Marlin Grill. We enjoyed some really amazing steak, fried lobster, and (my favorite) creme brulee. And Prosecco. Because…Prosecco.
I was so sad to leave but so grateful for such an incredible trip. It’s one I’ll always remember. I can’t thank Sandestin enough for hosting us!
