You know those days where you have an awesome idea and you set about making said idea happen, and everything just “clicks”?
Yeah…today was not one of those days.
I think it’s because I’m on a diet.
It’s bringing me bad mojo.
Plus, I’ve been using my diet as an excuse to judge other people’s eating habits.
Dangit I hate karma sometimes.
Anyways, I’ve known for months that I wanted to make a cupcake for Johnny Depp’s cute character in the upcoming movie, Rango. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize how hard it would be.
His head is all shaped weird and stuff…very hard to translate in food form.
Several attempts, one giant disaster of a kitchen, and about sixteen whiney text messages to friends, family, and anyone else willing to give sympathy….this is what I’ve come up with.
Maybe not EXACTLY like Rango….but it’s entirely edible, easy, and pretty darn cute.
I started off with Nutter Butter cookies. You need one per cupcake.
You also need lollipop sticks and light green candy melts. Attach a stick to the back of each cookie with melted candy and once set, coat the front of the Nutter Butter with melted green candy as well.
From there, just add the face:
I attached everything using candy melts, and the mouth, nose and black dots on the eyes are just canned chocolate frosting dyed black. I cut sour straws and attached them to the lollipop stick with melted candy.
I sprinkled brown sugar on my frosted cupcakes for sand, but you could also used crushed graham crackers or vanilla wafers.
I’m thinking that maybe Johnny Depp will see these cupcakes on the internet and want to send me an email.
Husband, I was totally just kidding–promise (you can still email me Johnny, it’s fine, really).
Happy Thursday and thanks for stopping by!!
