Let it be said that I am not a huge zoo fan. However, according to the parenting rule book, I am periodically required to take the children to view animals and do an extreme amount of walking.
If I’m going to be forced, the least I can do is take them to the best zoo around. That should buy me a few zoo free years, at least. So today we found ourselves at the San Diego Zoo. Hope you’re happy, kids.
I knew it was going to be a long day when right off, the kids decided that we needed to stop at every penny flattening machine. Do you know how long it takes for 3 pennies to be cranked into flat souveniers? Hint: it feels like eternity.
I brightened considerably when I saw this little Koala though, because my very first stuffed animal looked exactly like this guy. When I saw him, my first instinct was to throw a complete Veruca Salt type fit. Remember on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? When she saw the squirrels that were trained to crack nuts?
“Dahday, I wont it now”
That sooooo doesn’t work in real life.
Unfortunately, the zoo is also home to several of my mortal enemies. Most of them look something like this big, mean bird.
Me and my llama….me and my llama…are goin’ to the dentist today…
If you do not think of that song every time you see a llama, you definitely didn’t watch enough Sesame Street in the early eighties.
Btw….since when do llamas qualify as zoo animals?
Because he didn’t use enough quarters in the penny smashing machines, my son decided to use one for a much needed foot massage. Apparently a 5 year old’s feet get really achy after a few hours in a zoo. I, the thirty year old mom who birthed him and had spent the last few hours lugging around a camera and a giant coke, had the pleasure of standing in the heat and watching this whole massage thing go down. Search for the logic in that, if you will, and get back to me when you find a reasonable explanation.
Of course, this was my favorite part of our day at the zoo. Because it was the part where I told my son that I’d finally found his long lost twin.
Revenge was mine at last.
Tomorrow we are headed to Hollywood. Fingers crossed I run in to the infamous duo known as “Speidi”. I have an intervention planned.
**I’ll be home this weekend and will resume my regular dessert themed posts….along with a new giveaway!! Feel free to Twitter stalk me in the meantime.
