Gnome Cupcakes

gnome2

I’ve known since I saw the previews for the movie Gnomeo and Juliet that I wanted to do some type of gnome cupcakes.

And with Spring being just around the corner, I thought these would be just perfect for…uh…a party about gnomes?

Or maybe…you could make these and eat them while you plant your flowers beds, which is what I’m going to do.

Minus the planting flower beds part.

I mean, dirt and stuff messes up my manicure, which hello, that’s surely not very cost efficient, right? So my lack of willingness to do hard labor outdoors has NOTHING to do with laziness and EVERYTHING to do with being thrifty.

And while I’m inside saving my manicure from ruin, I might as well eat a cupcake and watch a little television.

It’s a hard life, but what can I say? I’m always sacrificing myself for my family.

It’s what moms do.

These cute little gnomes couldn’t be easier to make.

You need donut holes for the heads. I inserted a lollipop stick in each donut hole and dipped them in equal parts peanut butter candy melts and white candy melts, with a few pink added in. That made a good flesh color.

Btw, I hate the word flesh. I will not be using that word again.

EVER.

gnome3

The hat is just a sugar cone dipped in red candy melts. I melted the candy, laid the cone in it and rolled it on it’s side to fully coat.

I used taffy for the nose and dipped it in the same melted candy I used for the face. You could also use any round candy for the nose that was a suitable size, or mold one out of Starburst or any other moldable candy.

I drew the beard on with a white candy writer. Candy writers are small tubes filled with candy melts. They have a small tip on them which makes them ideal for drawing/writing with candy.

The mouth is just drawn on with black food marker. I prefer Americolor. They last a long time and have a fine tip.

You can leave the gnomes as cute little pops, or insert them into frosted cupcakes, which is what I did.
gnome

Just make sure you use a sturdy cupcake and frost with plenty of buttercream. I used a grass piping tip to add a little grass…grass is so easy and you don’t need to be good at piping to master it, so no worries. Just buy a tip a do a few practice squeezes and you’ll be fine.

Aren’t those guys cute?

They’re my gnome boys.

My gnomies.

My gnome skillets.

You don’t even gnome me anymore.

You can find the green baking cups (plain and flowered), lollipop sticks, black food marker, white candy writer, and candy melts at Sweet! Baking Supply. Shipping is reasonable and very fast.

Later gnomies. Thanks for stopping by and have a happy Tuesday!!
