This is going to be the first in an ongoing series of foundation reviews. Most of you know I am a total make-up junkie, and foundation is probably the one product I am always trying the most. There’s just something about the promise of flawless or glowing skin that draws me in!
Each of these reviews will start with a quick run down of the price, coverage, and pros and cons, then I’ll share my own thoughts and experience below. I’ll also keep a running list linking to previous foundation reviews at the bottom of each post so you can easily find what you are looking for or compare other foundations. Foundation isn’t always the cheapest, so hopefully this will help you find a good fit for you without going through a lot of duds.
Of course, I’d love you to leave comments with suggestions for future reviews!
I decided to start with the foundation that’s getting the biggest hype right now — BareMinerals Bareskin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation.
What it promises: Created with exceptional purity in mind, this ultrathin, skin-perfecting fluid provides seamless adjustable coverage, a natural finish, and the look and feel of beautiful skin while delivering a noticeably brighter, more youthful appearance—it’s like nothing you’ve ever felt before.
Applied with: Although BareMinerals recommends their custom brush, I used my Beauty Blender sponge. Before application, I moisturized with Mary Kay TimeWise Day Solution and primed with Mally Beauty Perfect Prep Poreless Primer.
Pros: Formulated without parabens , silicone, fragrance, water, or oil. Decently priced for a higher end brand. Nice and light for Summer, and TONS of shades to choose from. It feels great on your skin — it sinks right in weightlessly.
Cons: Extremely thin, which can make for messy application if you aren’t careful! Does not last all day — even with a primer, it begins to rub off within a few hours. Do not use if you have dry skin or dry patches — it clings and makes them look even worse.
I wanted to love this foundation, but I didn’t. My skin changes depending on the season and right now it’s combination — a bit more oily all over but dry in my T-zone. This foundation made my nose and chin look peeling and AWFUL. It does feel nice and light, but if you’re new to it, be careful about squirting it out of the bottle. It’s very thin and can make a mess.
BareMinerals recommends their brush for this foundation, but I used my Beauty Blender sponge. I’m not a huge fan of applying foundation with a brush and I hate investing in brushes that I may not continue using. Overall, I’d recommend this if you have sensitive skin, are looking for something light and natural looking, or have skin that is normal to maybe a tad oily. Dry skin girls, this is not for you!
Have you used this foundation yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
I’ve had several emails from readers reporting that my post are no longer being sent to their email. I’ve looked into it and it appears to be an issue on Feedburner’s end. If you resubscribe, it should resolve the problem! For those of you who do not currently subscribe to emails, I have three options for you if you are interested. In my blog sidebar to your right, there is a Bloglovin’ option, a newsletter option, and a subscription for individual posts option.
What is the difference between these? Bloglovin’ is a reader (like Google reader if you ever used that) that helps you keep up with all the blogs you follow in one place! If you like that option, subscribe to that and then my new posts will pop up with everyone else you follow.
My newsletter comes out every Friday will be delivered right to your email. I always include a personal note and greeting, then a photo and blurb with a link to each post I did over the week. If you want to be able to see all my posts for the week in just one email, this is the best option for you!
Having each post delivered to your inbox is exactly what it sounds like — each time I publish a blog post, it will be sent directly to your email. If you don’t want to wait until the end of the week for my recipes/reviews to be delivered to you, this is the best option for you!
Most of you know that Facebook isn’t what it used to be in terms of showing you what you want to see in your newsfeed. I used to use Facebook to notify me of my favorite blogger’s new posts, but it’s no longer reliable, so I subscribe to newsletters and follow many in my reader. If you find that you are missing posts from me, subscribing is always the easiest way to keep up. You can always click through and come here from the email or reader so you can leave a comment or feedback.
Thanks for reading!!
