UP is one of my all time favorite Disney movies.
That opening scene – can you get through it without crying? If you can, you most certainly are not human.
So many animated movies focus on beauty and youth. I love that UP forces us to look at an elderly person through his own eyes — his dreams, his sacrifices, and his one true love. It’s so easy to look at others and forget that we’ve all had a story, isn’t it?
Now that I’ve got you all depressed and crying…my OTHER favorite part of the movie is that big bunch of gorgeous balloons. They are bright and fun and symbolize adventure and freedom. I’ve wanted to do an UP themed dessert for awhile, and when looking at my collection of candy melts the other day, it hit me.
And so SO simple to put together!!
The thing I love most (besides how happy they are) is that you can use any colors you want depending on the occasion (pinks and purples for a princess party, etc) and they’re great for almost any birthday.
Wouldn’t they be super cute at a carnival or circus themed party too?
If these don’t make you smile, I think we have to stop being friends.
No, seriously. If you’re not smiling, you need to go away.
As you can see, the material list is short. Candy melts and popsicle sticks.
If you’re not familiar with candy melts, they are vanilla flavored (kind of like white chocolate) “disks” that you melt as a coating like Almond Bark.
I used the super wide popsicle sticks you find at the craft store. This gave the candy melts a wider and sturdier base. You’ll have to trim a couple inches off the bottom if you don’t want any of the stick showing on top of the frosting, so hold it up to your cupcake before inserting it to see how much needs cut off.
I melted a bit of white candy melts and just stuck three candies on the stick in a triangular shape as a base. From there I just stuck a few more on, overlapping slightly.
They came together really quickly and were incredibly easy. I’ll definitely be using this idea for future birthday parties!!
The other good thing about these cute toppers?
Completely edible. Duh.
I hope you love and enjoy them as much as I do!!
Enjoy and have a very happy Wednesday!!
