I don’t know about at YOUR house, but we are in full Back to School Mode around here.
In some ways, it’s a blessing. Sure, I have the baby at home, but when she lays down for a nap…there is silence.
No, “what’s for lunch”, no “hey mom can you enter in your password so I can get this app”, and NO ENDLESS FLOPPING.
(one thing I noticed towards the end of Summer was that my son’s couch flopping had increased to alarming levels)
The BAD thing about back to school?
It seems that I cannot get up early enough to do ALLTHETHINGS. I’d love to be dressed, made up, and have breakfast on the table when my son gets out of bed, but I have come to the conclusion that the only way that is possible is if I get up in the middle of the night. Between a groggy baby, a tired kid, spelling words that need practiced, and hamper digging (sometimes I forget to wash a load of shorts, sue me), breakfast is sometimes a last minute deal. And that is why the Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker is so awesome!!
I got to see this machine firsthand at BlogHer Food and I thought it was super cool. My family LOVES breakfast sandwiches but we don’t do a ton of fast food — it’s expensive and hello, I eat enough dessert that I can do without a greasy breakfast everyday. I’ve purchased premade frozen breakfast sandwiches at the grocery store before and again — expensive.
Also, there are only like four in a box, which means I blink and it’s time to go back to the store.
The cool thing about THIS machine is that you can buy bulk ingredients like prebaked biscuits, English muffins, or frozen pancakes (or make and freeze your OWN pancakes or biscuits) and put together your own sandwiches inexpensively. Instead of getting heated and rubbery in the microwave, these sandwiches are toasted, so they come out perfect!!
Here’s how it works:
Plug the Breakfast Sandwich Maker in to preheat. It’ll take about five minutes — go make coffee if that’s your thing, rub a piece of ice on your child’s back to wake them up (not that I’d EVER do such a thing), whatever you need to do that takes about fiveish minutes.
Once the Ready light turns green, make your sandwich:
Lower the bottom ring of the machine and put your first piece of bread down. I used an English muffin.
Top with cheese, then meat, and lower the next ring.
Add your egg, if using. I poured in some eggbeaters and let them cook until almost cooked through before topping with my other slice of bread. Once I added the other piece of bread, lower the lid and wait a few minutes.
Slide out the middle ring that held the egg, lift the lid, and your sandwich is ready!!
My husband and son are LOVING trying out different sandwich combos, and I love knowing that they are getting a good breakfast to start the day.
