Guess what, y’all??

It’s Candy Bar Week up in herrr!!!

As you might know, my friend Shelly and I like to team up and do theme weeks from time to time.  And this week, our friend Bridget is joining, too!!

Why a classy lady like her is hanging out with a couple of nincompoops like us is beyond me, but I’ll take it.


All of our desserts this week will be centered around candy bars — either in their flavor combinations, as a main ingredient, OR homemade candy versions of your favorite store bought candy.

Because sometimes the baby is napping and you have a candy bar emergency and don’t want to wake her up to run to the store.  Not that I speak from experience or anything.

For my first dessert this week, I decided to make Heath Bar Salted Caramel Brownie Trifles!!

Heath Bars are one of my most favorite candy bars.  I like to bite the chocolate part off and save the toffee piece in a big chunk for last because I’m weird.

These sweet treats are layers of brownie, salted caramel, and whipped cream flecked with crunchy bits of crushed Heath Bars.

I did mine in little jars, but you could also use mini trifle dishes, or make one large trifle.

These are seriously SERIOUSLY yum, and are incredibly easy to throw together.


Heath Bar Salted Caramel Brownie Trifles


  • 1 (9x13) pan of brownies, baked, cooled, and crumbled (I used Duncan Hines Dark Chewy Dark Chocolate, but any homemade or boxed mix will do)
  • 11 oz bag Kraft caramel bits
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 2 cups heavy cream (COLD)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 full sized Heath Bars -- crushed, plus extra for garnish (if desired)


  1. Prepare caramel sauce: In a microwave safe bowl, combine caramel bits and 3 TBS water. Microwave for about 3 minutes, stopping to stir every 30 seconds, until smooth. Stir in sea salt and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Place a metal mixing bowl and your mixer's whisk attachment in the freezer for 5 minutes. Remove from freezer and add cold, heavy cream and powdered sugar. Beat on high until the mixture forms a stiff whipped cream. Keep an eye on it -- it beats up fast and you don't want it to turn to butter.
  3. Fold crushed Heath Bars into the whipped cream. Layer trifle as follows -- crumbled brownie, caramel, and cream. Repeat layers, ending with caramel and garnishing with additional Heath Bar pieces if desired.


I prefer fresh whipped cream, but you can use Cool Whip if that suits your fancy.

You can also use Heath Bits instead of crushing your own candy bars, but I liked the consistency of the ones I crushed myself -- there were big pieces, small pieces, and some bits that were crushed to nearly a powder...it reminded me of a Blizzard!!

Keep uneaten trifle in the refrigerator. These may be prepared ahead and covered in the fridge until serving time.
