Chocolate Chip Biscuits with Chocolate Peanut Butter Gravy

So, this happened.

I don’t know if you know this about me, but I am known far and wide for my biscuit making abilities.

And by far and wide, I mean that my husband and son really like them a lot.

I’m sure other people would too, but that would require me inviting them over to eat and hello, no.  Because after eating, my friends would offer to help clean up and I would say, “don’t be silly, you’re my guest” and then they would leave and the kitchen would be a mess and I would complain and angry wash, which involves a lot of slamming and splashing of faucet water.

Side note– my husband NEVER notices the angry wash.  He is only able to focus on one thing at a time, and whatever he’s watching on television drowns out the angry wash EVERY TIME.

So hows about I tell you how to make your OWN biscuits and then you can stay home and angry wash your own dishes.

Sound good?

All you need is Bisquick, 7Up or Sprite, and sour cream.

You’ll make these biscuits and then you’ll want to marry me and it’ll be awkward because I already have a husband.

But trust me when I say I can be bought for the right pair of shoes.  So…there’s that.

When you make biscuits, you also need gravy.  And here in the South, Chocolate Gravy is a thing.

It’s true.  We just make gravy and put it all up on everything.

So while I was making biscuits, I thought…”why not make chocolate PEANUT BUTTER GRAVY??”

And then I did.  And I added chocolate chips to my biscuits because I am innovative.

You know…like Benjamin Franklin.

But with food.

And with cute shoes.

This is seriously one of the best breakfasts EVER.  I had a big old plateful for lunch, which I am pretty sure is NOT condusive to Operation Get Skinny, but whatevs.

Make this immediately.  And invite me over to share.

Chocolate Chip Biscuits with Chocolate Peanut Butter Gravy

Serving Size: 4 (2 biscuits each)

  • 2 cups Bisquick
  • 1/2 cup cold sour cream
  • 1/2 cup 7Up or Sprite
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Gravy:
  • 4 TBS (1/2 stick) butter
  • 2 TBS unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 TBS all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 TBS creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla

  1. Preheat oven to 400.
  2. Put Bisquick and mini chocolate chips in a large bowl. Add sour cream and cut in with a pastry cutter or two butter knives (I always use my hands...just make sure they're clean and get mixing), until thoroughly mixed. It should be crumbly and moist without any Bisquick left at the bottom of the bowl. Make a well in the center and add the soda -- let it bubble up for a few seconds, then stir it in just until barely incorporated. Do not over handle the dough.
  3. Turn the biscuit dough out onto a floured board or counter. Gently knead JUST until it comes together. Roll to about 1/2 - 3/4 inch thickness and cut with a glass or biscuit cutter (don't twist the cutter as you push down -- just go straight down). I used a 2 1/2 inch cutter, but you can use any size you like. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet and let them rest for about 5 minutes (do your dishes, clean up your counter, etc). Pop tray in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes or until tops are golden.
  4. Make gravy: Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium low heat. Whisk in flour and cocoa and whisk continuously until very thick and bubbly. Add sugar, peanut butter, and milk and whisk until smooth. Continue cooking and whisking until mixture becomes thick like a gravy (it will resemble unset pudding). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Serve over biscuits.

I’m so excited for you to make these.

Or print it out and give it to your husband and kids. Hello, Mother’s Day.
