Baby Update — 3 months!!
Can you believe that Lucy is a quarter of a year old today?
Time is flying by and it makes me a little sad. But I’m so happy to watch her grow and develop a personality…she is so much fun!!
Lucy has been sleeping through the night for the past month. She lays down between 8 – 830 and puts herself to sleep. I lay her down in a dark room with a noise machine, so I guess she knows what that means!! She never cries, just tosses and turns and sucks on her little hands until she drifts away.
She usually sleeps until around 7 am. Lately she’s been waking up around 2 or 3 am for a feeding, and I feed her and lay her right back down, even if she is still awake. She sometimes tosses and turns a bit, then falls right back asleep for several more hours. I couldn’t be more thankful!
We had such a rough first month or so, but now I think that was due to feeding issues. I don’t make enough milk to sustain her, and that is okay. I do what I can and I supplement the rest, and she is gaining weight like crazy.
Her last doctor appointment was January 31st, and she had gained 2 lbs in 4 weeks. She had also moved from the 3% in weight to 25%, which is really great!! Now I only have to take her for appointments once a month instead of once every week or two, which is a huge relief.
Her personality is really starting to shine through, and I’m truly in awe of how alert and interactive she is. Her favorite thing is to just sit in her bassinet and watch me talk, eat, and do household chores. She much prefers that to being held and snuggling. I love watching her mouth and tongue move while she stares at me intently…I can tell she’s trying to figure out how to make her mouth do what mine is doing.
Of course, she cries, but only if she is hungry or tired. If she’s crying, she needs fed or a nap, and that’s that. After our rough first month, I really thought I was going to be in for a time of it, so I’m surprised at how easygoing she is.
Jon David is so proud and protective over her, and it’s so stinkin’ cute.
I went to his class Valentine party and all the kids knew ALLLLL about her already. Some of them wanted to touch her or look at her, and he kept saying, “Be careful, watch out!!”. Sometimes I feel guilt because I can’t always give him the attention that I used to give him, but I also see how having a baby sister has changed him, and I know that this was a good thing for him. He has grown up a lot and I am so proud of him.
Of course, I still have days where I’m unshowered and frazzled. Sometimes lately I venture out to shop or get something to eat and strap Lucy in her stroller to come along. Some days it goes great, and some days I cut it short to head home because she is fussing, but I know it’s only temporary. They get big so fast, I just want to enjoy it while I can.
We have another doctor appointment in a few weeks and I’m really hoping for more good news on her weight.
Thanks so much for always loving on my sweet baby and checking on us. We are all doing great!!
Have a happy Tuesday!!

Thanks for visiting my blog! I realize you could be doing more important things with your time. Like watching the news or washing socks. I hope you stay awhile. Much more fun than socks, I promise.

Ella has a little boy in her class who is 7 and he just had his first sister born. I watch them and think of you often. It’s a sweet sweet thing that relationship!

so fun. waiting for my 2 month old to sleep thru the night….does lucy give lessons???
What sweet pictures of your little ones! I’m glad to hear that Lucy is such a good sleeper and that she’s growing!
yay for sleep! I have twins (b/g) and they are sleeping better. My baby girl is having eating issues. I am strictly pumping and then supplementing b/c I don’t make enough for the both of them. Baby girl is a strong eater the first like 10-20ml… then gets distracted and uninterested. After persuading her for like a half hour she starts to et again… veerrry slooowly. It takes her over an hour! Then baby boy… he is a tank and eats in like 5mins. I hope this is just a phase….
This picture of Jon David looking at his precious sister is sweeter than a 5 lb. box of candy. Soooo happy Lucy is gaining weight and sleeping through the night. Makes a HUGE difference in your mental health. Lucy is blessed to have Jon David as her brother!
Thanks for sharing sweet LL with us :-). It’s amazing to watch her grow!
Awwww, look how much she has grown! She looks so nice and chubby and healthy. Good job, mama!
Your babies are beautiful! I’m so glad to hear that Lucy is doing so well, Kristan. :)
That’s fantastic! The photos are absolutely precious.
She is too cute! I love that she has such a good big brother. You can totally tell from the photos. And way to go Lucy for sleeping so well! At three months, Liam was still up until 10pm-12am and up multiple times at night. Oye. Luckily he sleeps so much better now (8pm-7am) with one wake up in between. Ahh…sleep is bliss.
When I had my second child, my midwife told me that the more I held the new baby, the more my oldest child would see herself in my arms…thus the more secure and loved my oldest would feel. I’m sure your son is so doting and protective of his sister because he sees in you just how much he was loved when he was her age.
Beautiful children, great pictures, wonderful and inspiring blog! Thanks for writing.
She is absolutely GORGEOUS !!
So cute! What a great big brother. So happy things have gotten easier for you!
Such a precious little peanut! So happy for you that she’s sleeping well too… Sleepy baby equals a happy mama!
She is SO beautiful and Jon David looks like such a wonderful big brother! Absolutely gorgeous pictures! My daughter made some cookies with a whole bunch of ingredients that are supposed to help make more milk. It has worked really well for her and my little 6-month old granddaughter. Maybe you could Google recipes to make more milk. Either way, it looks like she is growing beautifully and you should be so incredibly proud! Hugs, Cristin
Thanks for sharing, Kristan. You must be so proud of your kids. What an accomplishment!!
She is so stinkin’ cute!
She is adorable! she looks like a little doll :)
What a lovely, happy update! Glad to hear that things are calming down and that all of you are into a great routine. The photos of your beautiful children are just fabulous.

http://www.diaryofafirstchild.com/2010/06/27/natural-recipes-breast-milk-enhancement-tea/To finish off National Breastfeeding Awareness Week, I wanted to share a fantastic mother’s milk tea with you. If you have the herbs in your cupboard, that’s great, but if not they are all pretty easy to find in your supermarket or health food shop, or from my preferred supplier – Woodland Herbs.
?2 tablespoons dried chamomile flowers
?1/2 tablespoon fennel seeds
?1/2 tablespoon dried nettle
?1/4 tablespoon dried lavender flowers
?1 cup boiling water.
How To prepare:
Combine all the herbs.
Put 1 tablespoon in a glass jar, add the boiling water, cover, and steep for 10 minutes.
Strain.
This tea also helps with digestion and relaxation of mother and baby.
Oh my, she’s becoming so adorable… that perfect baby age where they are starting to notice the world around them and the people in it. If I weren’t far past that age (saith the middle aged mom of a 4 year old lol) I’d be trying to have another in hopes of getting a girl. *drools over kids like a little old lady*
What a cutie!
So glad to hear things are going so well! Lucy is such a little doll, and it’s awesome that Jon David has taken so well to being an older brother.
