Chocolate Cherry Push Pops
Have you ever noticed that a baby multiplies your dirty laundry by like a trillion?
It does.
And I don’t know if it’s their dirty clothes, or the fact that you’re so short on time, but it seems like there are piles of dirty clothes at every turn.
Also, baby clothes have to be washed separate, which is kind of a pain.
One time, I decided to just throw Lucy’s stuff in with the regular clothes. Then one day she got a little rash on her belly and I recognized the onesie from being in the regular laundry without special detergent and I was all “AHHHH!!! I’m the worst mom that ever lived!!!” then I changed her clothes and begged for forgiveness while she just stared at me and drooled. (Or maybe she was pooping, because she had that intense look on her face). So I had to track down all the stuff that needed rewashed in special baby detergent.
Then I ate chocolate because that whole thing was stressful.
Then I said, no wonder your pants don’t fit, you do things wrong, then you eat chocolate to make yourself feel better you big dummy.
Sometimes my husband asks if I want him to do some laundry, and I scream “NOOO!!! STAY AWAY!!” and he’s all confused because we are supposed to want our husbands to do laundry.
But. BUT!!
He lacks follow through. Because what he does, is throw a load in the washer and forget about it. Then the next day, I find a washer full of clothes that have a suspicious mildew-ey smell, and I have to rewash them, then put them in the dryer, then fold them and put them away, and I resent him the whole time and plot my revenge.
And plotting revenge is stressful, so I go eat some chocolate, and you see where this is going.
Anyways.
Want some treats?
These push pops are so cute and perfect for Valentines, and couldn’t be simpler. They’re also great for parties because you can just throw them in a box and go!!
I made these last weekend while my friend Shelly was here visiting me…and she made a really cool Rainbow Ganache Cake at the same time. Go over and check it out, I think you’ll love it!!Chocolate Cherry Push Pops
INGREDIENTS
- Chocolate Cake, baked and cooled in a jelly roll pan so it’s thin (I used Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge)
- Cherry Frosting:
- 2 sticks (1 cup) butter, slightly softened
- 10 oz jar maraschino cherries
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 20 empty push pop containers
- Maraschino cherries for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare frosting: In the bowl of a mixer, beat butter and 4 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice from the jar of cherries until semi-combined. With the mixer on low, slowly add powdered sugar until it is just mixed in. Increase speed to high and beat for about a minute until fluffy.
2. Cut chocolate cake into small circles (I use an empty push pop so the cake is the exact right size). Layer the cake and frosting in the push pops (you can either use a piping bag or a small spoon to do this).
3. Top push pops with a maraschino cherry, if desired.
Notes:
You can buy empty push pops HERE.

Thanks for visiting my blog! I realize you could be doing more important things with your time. Like watching the news or washing socks. I hope you stay awhile. Much more fun than socks, I promise.

Yes. Husbands and sons doing laundry never works out. Ever.
Now gimme a push pop.
These are totally adorable! My husband did laundry while I was out-of-town this weekend. I’m a little afraid of what I might find.
1) Husbands are not allowed near the laundry, except to fold and put away. Sometimes they do that wrong, but it’s easier to fix.
2) When our babies are little we switch the whole family over to an anti-allergy detergent (like All Free and Clear). The pediatrician told me it would be as gentle as baby detergent for them, there’s no residue from the harsh stuff in your machine that could irritate baby, it’s cheaper than special baby detergent and (most importantly) you don’t have to do separate baby clothes loads.
Boys suck at laundry. It’s genetic.
These pops are gorgeous! I’ve got to get me some push pops for baking!
I have nightmares about my husband trying to do my laundry!!! Please DO NOT touch my laundry. As much as I complain about having to do it, I do not want anyone else to do it. However, if they would like to clean the garage, empty the dishwasher, scrub the toilets, by all means, be my guest. Just keep your hands off my laundry.
Those look great and AMEN to the laundry issues! My baby girl is 6 weeks old and my husband and I just looked at each other the other day and vowed to not start a single load of laundry b/c we just needed one day without it! The thing is I feel like it’s more our laundry than hers! CRAZY!
My husband can’t really be trusted with the laundry either. He doesn’t get that some things can’t go in the dryer. Poor men, must we do everything?!
So cute!!! I have some push pops sitting on my shelves and I still don’t know where to use them. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
Haaaaa……NEVER let your husband do laundry! Not EVER! It just makes more work.
These push pops are super cute. I think I’ll have one…or two. After all, breastfeeding burns calories.
My husband is the same way. Good intentions, bad follow through. I love these push pops, though! What a perfect little portioned treat!
These are so cute! And I agree on the husbands/laundry thing. I let my husband carry all the clothes downstairs, but that’s about where it stops :)
my hubby is the same way…he said he would fold a load of clothes but they have been in the dryer for three days :) i’m waiting until he runs out of underwear!
Thankfully my hubby really does do the laundry all the way haha. But if he didn’t. I’d be ok with eating these while I plotted my revenge.
Those XO sprinkles are ADORABLE! You always have the cutest props to photograph with!
And as for the laundry, I’m pretty bad at it too. My boyfriend lets it pile up too far until he is REALLY out of clothing, and I do it, but I’ll forget it in the dryer. And it can sit there for days. At least it is dry, just wrinkly.
I love these! That frosting sounds so good. I am due in 4 weeks and get to do the baby stuff all over again. I feel your pain!
Oh no, you’re giving me laundry anxiety about having this baby #2! :) With Judah, I never had to do his laundry separately, and hoping this baby is the same. Otherwise, I just might have the poor kid wear dirty, spit up covered onesies a week at a time before doing his laundry. haha! Ok, kidding, I’m not THAT bad of a mom! :)
So true about laundry! My husband will be “helpful” by putting a half a load in the wash so we can fill it up the rest of the way the next day, but when I go to start a load it’s never stuff that can go in with what’s in there. So I have till haul out all the stuff in the washer anyway. But hey, at least they try sometimes, right?
I hate laundry. Even with just 1 7 year old, we have entirely too much. Chocolate is sometimes essential in dealing with things.
Well, I guess I am in the lucky minority! My husband usually does the laundry. And he is GREAT at it. He shakes and smooths out the jeans before he puts them in the dryer. He’s awesome! (he doesn’t check his pockets very well, but that’s ok)
Ok, these push pops are adorable…but aren’t they hard to actually eat?
No, they’re really not hard!! The frosting keeps the cake from just falling out when you push it up :)
Our championship foosball table serves as a clean-laundry depository.
And as the pile grows, our motivation to fold plummets!
If I don’t do a load of laundry every day.. it gets ridiculous. It’s like the blob. It’s even growing and in my head it’s violent.
I won’t let mine near the laundry either. My mother-in-law came over to help out because having a newborn and a cold is like trying to juggle chainsaws when no one has ever taught you how to juggle. She threw some of the baby stuff in with the regular laundry and then folded everything wrong and put all my air-dry clothes in the dryer.
I had a melt down and was like, “THIS IS WHY NO ONE IS ALLOWED NEAR THE LAUNDRY.”
So. Yes, I feel your plight. But I’m sure those push-pops make everything better.
You poor thing – I can’t believe a woman doesn’t understand the concept of hang-to-dry! That’s why I don’t let my husband near the laundry anymore – in our first year of marriage (eight years ago), he offered to do a load of laundry, I gladly accepted, and my bras ended up in the dryer.
Wow! Your husband and my husband should talk! Mine does the exact same thing which drives me up the wall. Hopefully when yours does the laundry, he at least has the decency to separate things instead of just dumping the entire hamper into one load! Yikes! This is why we eat chocolate and drink wine!
I have a two month old at home, too, so I’m feeling you on the laundry. We just had a pooptastrophe over here today, so there was lots of washing in lots of hot water. Yuck.
But, I do wash my baby laundry with other stuff because I use free and clear detergent. Currently I am using Arm & Hammer Free and Clear, but I have also used All Free and Clear, and both work great, and both are safe for baby. My daughter (first baby) had really bad infant eczema, so we took her to a pediatric dermatologist (there are like two in our state, and it took like four months to get an appointment…crazy), but she told us to us the Free & Clear. And I have used it since she was a baby. And my son now also has really sensitive skin, but he does great using the Free & Clear. So you may want to give it a shot. Good luck!
push the contents of those push pops into my mouth!! this looks like so much fun!
You are hilarious and say exactly what my daughter says about laundry and babies! Love those push-ups and especially the chocolate/cherry pairing!
Newborn baby, special extra loads of laundry, instagram…and you still find time to make adorable push pops? I wanna be you when I have kids! ;-)
