Easy Star Cupcake Toppers!!

My friend Callye recently challenged a bunch of bloggers to find creative ways to use a star cookie cutter.

In case you didn’t know, Callye is like a cookie cutter ninja.  I knew better than to even TRY to come up with a fancy smancy cookie.  Instead, I decided to incorporate the cutter into MY favorite medium — cupcakes!!

I absolutely LOVE using chewy candy like Airheads in my creations.  It’s cheaper than fondant, and tastes way better too.  So I decided to pair Airheads with a small star cookie cutter to create edible cupcake toppers.

A five year old child could handle this project.

I mean that literally.

I used fun sized Airheads, which you can buy in a bag at most grocery stores like Walmart or Target.  The small star cutter came from the hobby store…you can find sets of cutters of all sizes where they keep the fondant cake decorating supplies.

Just cut the stars out of your Airheads and stick them on top of frosted cupcakes.

If you want to add candy “streamers”, just cut your Airhead into strips using a clean pair of scissors and twirl around a dowel or sturdy straw.  Let harden for  just a bit and slide it off!!

(that photo was from my New Years Cupcakes I did last December)

You can totally make these!!  Easy peasy.

Now — want to see what all the OTHER fabulous ladies did with a star cookie cutter?

About Kristan
I’m a proud housewife with a son in the second grade and a sweet baby girl. Like most little boys, my son funny and cute but a little weird. Which only makes me love him more. And the baby? Well...I know she'll sleep eventually. If I could, I would paint my life pink, sprinkle it with glitter, and give everyone a cupcake.

O.K., now I’m wishing we had Air Heads in Canada (we do have a few but not the candy kind LOL) Seriously, these are so fun and I think quite pretty. Great idea and I hope you enjoy a wonderful 4th of July celebration.

Airheads?!? Oh my gosh! Can I tell you how much kiddo would love me if I used Airheads instead of royal icing?!? That would move me right into “cool mom” territory. At least for the day. ;)

Kristan, those are brillant! I could do these easy peasy! Now I wanted to let you know that I made your coconut truffles (which were delish) and NILLA-Banana cookie balls (Kraft) and regular chocolate cake balls, for a monkey-themed baby shower. They were a huge hit! My fav were the coconut truffles! I even finished them off. The stinker of the situation was I ottally forgot to take pictures of the truffles!!!!! So I guess I will just have to do a re-do! Thanks for youre awesome blog, you have no idea how it lifts my spirits some days!

You have such good ingredients in America – Airheads!! We don’t get them in the UK. Time for some Internet retail I think!
