Easter Carrot Treat Bags
My 7 year old son has recently become wise to the Easter bunny scam.
Of course, this is the same child who believes that Spiderman defends the city of New York, so why a giant bunny delivering candy is such a far leap for him is beyond me. But regardless, he creeps him out, is freakishly large, and lacks the thumbs necessary for carrying large quantities of candy, so who am I to argue with such logic?
In some ways it makes me sad because it’s a sure sign of things to come. In other ways, it’s a relief because I no longer have to pay $15 for an awful 5×7 of my son on the lap of some strange man dressed as a bunny with giant eyes that never blink
It another way, it’s just plain annoying because now my kid has taken to pointing out which Easter candy he’d like in his basket this year. Like a magical Easter door to Narnia has opened and all he has to do is wish things out loud in front of me and it will happen.
I’ve tried to explain that it doesn’t work that way, so of course he’s all, “why not, wouldn’t you rather get me what I like” and I’m all, “I’m the President of your Life, and if I want to spend my money on candy you’ll never eat, that is totally my decision, this is not an Easterocracy”.
Seriously, I think I just want the bunny back. If he’s still in your life…appreciate it, savor it, and hang on with desperation.
Since Easter surprises are obviously scarce this year, I decided to come up with something fun to hide amongst the plastic eggs that my kid wouldn’t expect…
I came up with candy filled carrots!!
These seriously couldn’t be easier.
Well, I mean…I guess they’d be easier if someone made them FOR you, but you know how people act when they do you a favor. Geez, it’s like all they want to talk about until you just wish you had done it yourself, know what I mean?
So make them yourself. Still easier.
You’ll need:
Sugar cones
Orange candy melts OR almond bark and orange candy coloring (do NOT use regular food coloring. Candy coloring can be purchased at most hobby stores next to the candy making supplies like chocolate molds)
Cone shaped treat bags
Green tissue paper
Green ribbon
Assorted Easter candy
1. Coat cones in orange candy. Place on a wax paper lined baking sheet and place sheet in the refrigerator until set.
2. Fill cones with candy.
3. Place cones in the treat bags.
4. Fill top of bag with folded green tissue paper and secure with ribbon
See?
Told ya it was easy.
These would also be really fun to give to relatives or neighbors. If you have the kind of neighbors that wave hi and invite you to cook-outs. Which I don’t. So…no candy cones for them.
I hope you enjoy these and have a wonderful Easter. Happy Monday!!

Thanks for visiting my blog! I realize you could be doing more important things with your time. Like watching the news or washing socks. I hope you stay awhile. Much more fun than socks, I promise.

Love these!
I always thought the Easter Bunny was creepy, but never did I consider the fact that he didn’t blink.
Makes complete sense!!
So cute! And if you don’t have carrot shaped treat bags, but like to decorate cookies and cakes, you can use the disposable clear plastic pastry bags. Hmm, I may have to do that for my little guy’s Easter basket.
I LOVE YOUR BLOG….. YOU CRACK ME UP! It seriously makes my day!
Ok, I’m going to have kids just so I can say “I’M THEP RESIDENT OF YOUR LIFE” on a daily basis. Yessssss
Wish I had fun neighbors too. We live out in the country, but there is one other house out here. We drive by and wave wildly, and they just
oops, I got cut off.
they just stare at us. We’ve turned it into a game, making our hello gestures bigger & bigger. The high point was honking the horn, rolling all the windows down, and yelling “HIIIII”. They quickly ducked into their house. Maybe WE’re the weird neighbors afterall. Hah.
I would like it if my neighbors, waved like crazy honked and said hello! I asked the new neighbor what the name of her dog was. She gave me a strange look and then said the name of the dog. I still greet her dog when I see it. I haven’t seen her since. We will see what happens. Keep rolling down the windows and hollering hi! It’s great!
These are so cute. It’s like two treats in one!
These are super cute! My 8 (now 9) year old daughter came clean about knowing about Santa right before this last CHristmas. I told her if she ever ruins it for her little brother she dies. (Merry Christmas!! ;-) ) My mom also told her that when all of the kids in our family knew about him we were cut off. I have a feeling my son is never going to tell me anything.
All three of my Easter Bunny believers no longer believe. It is a terrible moment in a Mom’s life. These carrots are adorable. I am passing your onto to my Baby Sister. She has my two adorable nephews who still believe. Thank you very much for your note and your idea!
OH BTW! You cracked me up as usual. I appreciate it. PLEASE, keep it up.
My oldest is 7 and I have a feeling he’s going to start not believing in stuff like this anymore. He asks too many questions now.
What saddens me the most is, my youngest is only 2 and a half and still he wouldn’t grasp the concept.
I’m afraid that my oldest may ruin it for my youngest right when he is able to start believing. He’s our last kid and our last chance to have fun with this.
These are so cute! I love Easter treats.
These are awesome! Such a fun treat for Easter!
Cute!! I love Easter goodies, this is perfect-o!
How did you get the whole cone covered in the chocolate? I see a big mess in my future if I tried to dip the cones. I have made and dipped candy (Oreo truffles, etc.) but those are small and round, not tall and long. LOL. I usually melt the chocolate in a bowl over some hot water. Thanks for help. I really need to make these.
I laid the cones on their sides in the melted candy and slowly rotated them so they were completely coated. I hope that helps!!
I love this idea ;)
This is totally brilliant (!) and I love you for it. I want to make this for MYSELF. :)
This is brilliant! You are my vitamin boost! Thanks!
Happy Easter!
these are awesome…great idea!
This is a crazy clever and adorable idea!! I will be seeing this all over food blogs from now on guaranteed. I wish you could patent it to make a little money on residuals. Well done!!!
When I was a wee girl and I asked my mom if the Easter Bunny/Santa was real, she just stopped and said, “Well if you don’t believe in them then you won’t get an Easter basket or a Stocking. They only come if you believe. I still believe so I’d be pretty sad if they gave me stuff and you were left with nothing.”
I plan on using this same twisted logic on my own daughter who is nearing that age of disbelief.
aw these are too cute! And I agree…the mall Easter bunny is just plain creepy.
What a great idea! I love this, probably will be making these for all my nieces and nephews this year.
These are so cute! I’m sure it’s a sad day when your kids stop believing–suddenly you have to buy him candy that HE likes, not just candy that YOU like :)
Love these! My 6 year old still does the Easter Bunny, so I am going today to puck up everything we need! Going to have to make these for sure!
These are super adorable and so creative!! Your son will love whatever goodies you decide to hide inside!
I love these!
I wasn’t going to do anything for easter but i think you have inspired me to make these cute carrot treats.
I have a 3-1/2 son and a1-1/2 daughter….i am sure my son would enjoy these…
anyways….i love reading your blog. you crack me up and make me smile!
btw. i love phillip phillips!!! he is a mini dave matthews. which i heart!
“I’m the President of your life…” I’m totally stealing that line to use on my kids.
Also, why is it fair that you get to be 100 times more creative than me? *sigh*
I was the youngest of 3…and when my oldest brother tried to “out” the Easter Bunny, mom said that as long as we believe, then we would get candy…if we didn’t believe in him…he would bring NOTHING (same with Santa). My middle brother still believes…he is 54 this year, and he still gets an Easter Basket & a Santa present….
I remember figuring out the Easter bunny thing. I cried. I think I’m over it now though…because of things like these treat bags. Genius, total genius!
So adorable. A little concerned though on how to coat the cones-any suggestions? Thanks! love your blog.
‘no candy cones for them’-that made me laugh! It reminded me of the soup guy on Seinfled-with the whole “NO SOUP FOR YOU!” I think these are super cute-mite have to make them for my nieces and nephews! Thanks for making me smile-as you do everyday! =)
I totally don’t remember when I stopped believing in the Easter Bunny. I’m sure it was around your son’s age. I LOVE how you made these! What a great idea to use sugar cones. They look exactly like carrots! Wonderful gift/treat idea :)
SO funny about your little man! He seems to have it all figured out. I would not be sad if I found one of these adorable treat bags in my basket!!
I was the oldest – I don’t remember when I figured out what was up with all of the candy-and-gift-delivering-make-believe-characters, but I’m sure I had to have been the first to know about it. The one thing that I DO remember about them was my mother telling me, “I know you understand how this works now, but if I ever hear you say it out loud, you will never receive anything ever again.” I know she really loved the fun of it all because I am 31 and still getting visits from Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. YAY FOR FREE CANDY!
It WOULD have been easier if you made these for me! I just finished rolling my cones and they are not as smooth as yours…AND I burned my fingers on the melted chocolate! SEE it would have been easier for me if you had made mine. But I am excited to use them anyway. Such an awesome idea and my friends are going to be so impressed! They’ll think that I am so clever! Ha! Just a good copy cat! And like others said you ALWAYS make me laugh. Look forward to your blog posts!
Uh. Hello. Genius! So sweet and simple, but totally super fun! :) Love it!
OH – fell upon your blog this morning…LOVE. You are my new friend:) Can’t wait to make these for my children!!!
Hello! I found your blog through pinterest… there was a delicious looking cupcake I wanted to try out but the pinner didn’t pin the specific blog post (bummer) and I have looked a bit for it but can’t find it so far. I tried going to recipes but you have to go through every page to find things. Do you have any kind of recipe index where you can just see a list of recipes without having to go through all of the posts??? This does look like a great blog though, I am positive I will be back for more!!!
such a cool idea! fantastic.
Another way to make the carrot is a orange tissue paper or an orange napkin. Might be less messy. I going to try this with some of my plastic decorating tubes.
