Snowman Christmas Cupcakes
I’m going to be honest and say that I’m not a fan of actually making REAL snowmen.
Like, out of real snow.
It’s cold, it’s wet, and you have to bundle up in gloves and coats and eleventy pairs of socks to go out in it and honestly I do not perform well when I don’t have my full range of motion available. I mean really, did you ever see Mr. Miyagi doing roundhouse kicks in thermals, jeans, and four pairs of wool socks?
Exactly.
I am, however, a huge fan of snowmen in theory. Frosty the Snowman, snowman decor, snowman treats, I am all about it. They’re just so cute and round and can be used for any winter treat, not just Christmas.
So I decided to make some cute mini snowman cupcakes.
It was a good idea.
These are basically the same idea as the snowman treats I made for Parent’s Magazine (blatant name drop, no shame here) but I made them mini and added a body. They’re so easy to put together, and I really love edible cupcake toppers because anyone can do them and there isn’t tons of waste.
- You’ll need:
Cupcakes, baked and frosted (I use THIS recipe for buttercream)
Lollipop sticks (1 per cupcake)
Mini Oreos (2 1/2 per cupcake)
Chocolate Covered Mini Marshmallows (1 per cupcake…you can find them at Walmart with the regular marshmallows…they’re so cool!)
Several uncooked spaghetti noodles (totally optional)
Brown food coloring (only necessary if you’re using the spaghetti to make arms)
White almond bark
Black and orange food markers
Assorted sprinkles (I bought mine at Walmart)
**I used uncooked spaghetti for the arms. If you are going to be serving these to little ones where choking may be an issue–skip this step!! As you can see in the collage above, I made one with no arms and he is still totally adorable**
Rub some brown coloring over several pieces of uncooked spaghetti and set aside to dry.
Melt your almond bark according to package directions. Coat Mini Oreos in the candy and set aside on wax paper to dry. Once the Oreos are set, turn over so the flat side (where the chocolate set against the wax paper) is facing up. Using the melted candy, attach a lollipop stick to two of them so that it forms a snowman.
You’ll need half an Oreo for each hat, so separate enough Mini Oreos and place them frosting side up on a piece of wax paper. Using a dab of melted chocolate, place a Chocolate Covered Marshmallow on top of the Oreo to form a hat. Leave until the chocolate has set and the marshmallows are firmly attached.
Once the hats and the snowmen are set and firm, attach hats to the heads with a dab of melted candy. I found that this was easiest if I set the hats at an angle. Cuter, too!! You can place these in a styrofoam block or floral foam to set, or just gently set down on your wax paper.
Once the hats are firmly attached, insert the arms (if doing this step) in the sides of the body and draw faces and buttons with your food markers. Insert into frosted cupcakes, and garnish with sprinkles.
Here’s a close up of the armless guy:
See? Still totally cute.
So give the ol’ Snowman Cupcakes a whirl at your next party, or just take them with you to Walmart and pass them around the parking lot. These deserve to be shared.

Holy cow, these are cute!!!
They’re one of my favorites too!! Thanks girl :)
I love the whimsy little hat tipped to the side, it is like he is about to take a bow for being so awesome!
I’m so with you. Cold and wet with restricted movement? Pass.
Awww….love these little guys.
Super duper adorable… love em’.
These are so darling! You’re so clever!
How cute are these?!?! My son will love them–thanks for another great idea!
Darling! As usual! :)
Truly and Absolutely adorable!!
These are amazingly adorable!!!!
Very cute! To save time (and your mind) you could use whole wheat spaghetti noodles for the arms.
Yes great idea!! I just used what I had on hand, which was plain ones. But whole wheat would be perfect :)
Oh. my. gawsh. Why can you make such cute things???
Adorable Kristan!!
Love coming here for the recipes and the creativity.
Was thinking: Why couldn’t a person use small pretzel sticks for the snowpeoples arms instead of uncooked pasta.
ColleenB.
Well, I used what I had on hand, but I think Pretzel sticks would definitely work…but they make look a tad thick for the body size. But I’m sure they’d be adorable!!
These look amazing!
Just found the treat for my 5 yr old’s class Christmas party. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!
How cute are those? You’d think after Gigi’s this weekend I’d be sick of cupcakes…not possible.
These are freaking adorable.
The snowmen are super cute!!
Freakin’ cute man!!
I am dying right now at how cute these are!!
These are so cute!!!
Adorable as always! And congrats on the Parents feature! Yay!
I am NOT a snowman maker either. I always feel like the worst mom in history when my kids want my help at making one in the winter. I see other moms in the neighborhood out playing with their kids and I hang my head in shame.
But apparently all the guilt in the world still cannot convince me to go out and play in the snow.
I am, however, an expert hot chocolate maker, so there.
Congratulations on the Parent’s Magazine feature of your snowmen. These ones (and the cupcakes) too are totally adorable and I love how precariously their little top hats are perched on their heads.
How high class are your snowmen….top hats eh? Lovely!!!

Crazy cute! And, congrats on the Parents’ feature!!
Thanks, girl!! :)
Oh my goodness, these are just too cute!
These are fantastical. I’m right there with you about the snow and real snowmen…but THESE I love.
So, I’ve been a longtime follower and I’m not sure if this question has been answered or not (sorry if I’m the gazillionth person asking), but I have to know – who eats all of these amazing treats? :) Liz
Well in instances like this, I only make about 5 cupcakes to decorate and freeze the rest for future decorating projects. But when I make cookies and stuff, I send them with my husband. He’s a contractor and he drops them off at Lowes to the people in Installed Sales. :)
Precious! I want a dozen. Do you ship to South Carolina? Better yet, I’ll drive to pick them up because I wanna visit with ya too. ; )
I wish you would!! I’m ready for another visit :)
Cute! I’m on a snowman kick this week. I’ll have to feature these. Love em!
Thanks Amy :)
Your talent and creativity amazes me every single time I read one of your posts. I love, love, love these snowman cupcakes.
