New Years Eve Midnight Cupcakes
It may surprise you to hear that I’m a New Years Grinch.
I mean…I just don’t see the big fuss.
First off, women celebrate by drinking cheap alcohol, wearing tons of glitter, and acting like triflin fools. Dude. Seriously? I already do that EVERY DAY.
Secondly, my husband gets excited because he thinks a New Year means a Fresh Start.
Trust me, when I wake up every year on the First and I’m still carrying Christmas cookies on my hips, something in the fridge smells, and yesterday’s dirty clothes still aren’t washed or folded, any illusions of a Fresh Start go right out the window.
So…New Years Eve is the same as any other night for me, except for that my kid gets to stay up til midnight, asking is it time yet, is it time yet, is it TIME YET?!?!?!?
But this year I have decided to try to have a bright and cheery perspective on New Years Eve. I will make food, I will play board games, and I will drink champagne,(which everyone knows is WAAAY classier than white wine, even if I buy the super cheap kind). It will be a fabulous family celebration!!
Want to join me?
Well. You’ll need cupcakes.
These cupcakes are SUPER easy (I think even easier than the New Years Cupcakes I did last year) and completely cute. I think they’re fitting for an adult OR family party.
You’ll need to start with cupcakes that are frosted (obvs). I used THIS buttercream recipe and piped the frosting on with a large open star piping tip. Easy peasy.
The clocks are just chocolate wafer cookies dipped in melted almond bark. Any round cookie or cracker would do. I piped the numbers on with black frosting and a #2 tip, but you could also write it on with ablack food marker if piping ain’t your thang. No biggie.
Then you just need sprinkle confetti and streamers.
To make the streamers, start by cutting an Airhead candy into strips. They can be thick or thin or all different sizes.
Wrap the strips around a dowel or sturdy straw. They can be loose or tight coils, it’s up to you.
Gently slide the candy off the dowel. Because the candy is pretty sturdy, it will hold it’s shape.
See how easy that is? Just use any colors you want. Then stick them on the frosted cupcakes, all haphazard like it’s a Par-TAY!!
And then you’re the Boss of New Year’s. Duh.
Enjoy. Have a happy Tuesday!!

Thanks for visiting my blog! I realize you could be doing more important things with your time. Like watching the news or washing socks. I hope you stay awhile. Much more fun than socks, I promise.

Those are so adorable!
My favorite cheapo Champagne is Asti Spumante or Moscato… The only wine I drink is Sutter Home Moscato. it issweet and wayyy better than White Zin. You should totally try it . those cupcakes are adoreable by the way. At my house we celebrate NYE in the daytime, with a brunch. at 11:59 AM w e count down and say happy New year at Noon. that way the kids can get all exxcited during the day and still keep their reg bedtime schedule. :O)
What a fun cupcake! Nice job, I loved the airhead spirally thingys! Best New Year’s treat ever!
Very cute! You fooled me, though…when I first looked at the picture I thought you had used an open-faced oreo cookie for the clock. (I wondered how you managed to get them open without losing some of the white frosting and having to eat at least a dozen of them just trying to get one perfect one! :-)
I thought the same thing about the Oreo :O)
I definitely just tried to open up an oreo just now to see if I could pull it off with an open faced oreo….i think it’s gonna be an epic fail haha.
The trick to get the filling the easiest on the Oreo is to heat the in the microwave for a couple seconds and twist the other cookie part off
So, so, so cute!
Happy New year! These are super cute!
Totally cute! I love the cupcakes.
If you happen to find out how to actually get that “FRESH NEW START” and the laundry is folded, house all cleaned sorta thing, could you please let me know because I’ve been doing laundry all day and I’d like a fresh new start.
Such a neat idea…I love it! Thanks so much for sharing with us.
Hugs,
Pam
Those are SO cute!
what a lovely decoration! they look really good
Adorable! I may actually have to be creative this year and pretend I worked super hard!
you really need a cupcake shop missy!! You have a special cupcake for EVERYTHING!
This is genius and while I’m actually going to celebrate NYE the first time in 10 years at a classy jazz club with a sip of champagne in an awesome city, these cupcakes will actually be perfect for my aunt’s 50th birthday party this year! I just need to perfect my heinous piping skills! *shamed*
Holy. Crap.
Those are so so cute!
We are not big New Year’s Eve-ers. I am pretty sure that cupcakes and champagne are the perfect evening :)
These are so cute, Kristan!!
I see some of your curly streamers in my furure:) Love them!
Perfect for party time! Happy New Year!
Psh, I’m with you on this one. I just don’t get the excitement over a new year. I mean, it’s a date. Woo. The hubby is dragging me out this year though so apparently sitting at home and working on crafts isn’t enough of a celebration. We’re going to go get drunk, watch a clock and make out in public. This sounds like a plan I need to implement during other times of the year too. Thanks for sharing these cupcakes, by the way. The curls are cute and using airheads is a great idea! The cookies would be fun to use for other things too so I may have to make note of those…
Your cupcakes are fabulous and I’m so glad you shared the tips. Your post is hilarious, I love your humor.
Got here via Jen @ TTJ. Happy New Year, or whatever :)

Thank you so much for visiting!! xoxo
If the Airheads company doesn’t send you a “thank you note” for all the free advertising you give them, then shame on them. If their stock went up AT ALL this year, I am sure it’s because of you. I never liked those silly, messy things until you showed me all the SUPER COOL things you can do with them. :)
Totally drooling over this idea! I’m not a baker but I love presenting baked items and this is going to make me look like I’m so creative! Thank you!
As for wine I recently discovered Stella Rosa Bianco and Mamamango at our family Christmas party. I’m mire of a tequila kind of girl but those two went through my palate in a very yummy way. :)
I am new to your blog, and have absolutely fallen in love with your cupcakes! I have not made many, but I definitely will be using your post as inspiration ! Thanks for sharing !
