Cute Vampire Cupcakes (McCormick Giveaway)

***WE HAVE A WINNER!!!***

Congratulations, Emily!! You are the winner of a baking kit from McCormick.

Please contact me at cookbookqueenblog (at) hotmail (dot) com to claim your prize!!

When I was a kid, vampires didn’t look like Edward Cullen or Bill Compton.

They weren’t glamorous, handsome, and rich (seriously, have you noticed that all vampires are rich nowadays???).

They looked like the Count from Sesame Street, or Eddie Munster, with widow’s peaks and pet bats.  They lived in musty castles with cobwebs and wore black capes with red lining.

In other words, they were very obviously VAMPIRES.

I mean, I’m all for the new hottie vampires, but I kind of miss the old-school organ-music-in-the-background vampires of my youth.  So when McCormick sent me a Halloween baking kit, I decided to put it to use making a batch of cute, child-appropriate vampires.

The vampires are super simple to put together, and are pretty flexible as to what type of candy you use.

I started off by dipping a lollipop stick in a bit of melted white almond bark and sticking it to the back of a Nilla Wafer.  You’ll need one for each cupcake.  Once they candy is set and the sticks are firmly attached, dip the front of the cookie in melted white almond bark.  Then add the face:

For the eyes, I used green confetti sprinkles with a black sugar pearl attached, but any small, round candy would work.  The hair is cut from a flattened Tootsie roll (if you buy the big ones and flatten them, you can get several triangles from one piece), and the mouth is a red DOT, cut into round slices and then each slice was cut in half again to form half-circle mouths.  I got 6 mouths from one piece of candy.  The teeth are a white Airhead, cut into small strips.

I usually use a clean pair of kitchen scissors for cutting my candy.  It’s so easy, just like crafting or scrapbooking, but with candy!!  As long as I have some flexible candy, almond bark, and kitchen scissors, I can make just about any cupcake topper.

For the “blood” that is on the fangs and dripped on the frosting, I just mixed a bit of red McCormick food coloring with a few Tablespoons of corn syrup.

Stick the completed Vampire in a frosted cupcake and you’re done!! I garnished mine with sprinkles and a few drops of the “blood”.

See how easy?  You could totally do that.

And today, you are in luck because not only did you get a cute cupcake idea, but McCormick wants to send a Halloween Baking Kit to one of my readers!!

The kit includes:

McCormick assorted food color, black food color, and vanilla extract

Cupcake Liners

Silicone Baking Sheet

Le Creuset Spatula

Mu Kitchen Oven Mitt

Assorted Halloween Candy

“Tricks for Your Treats” Halloween Decorating Ideas

To enter, just leave a comment telling me your favorite Halloween treat.  It can be something you bake up, or even just candy that you buy every year.  I will be taking entries until Wednesday 10/19 at 11:59 pm.  Winner will be chosen via Random.org and announced here Thursday.

A big thanks for McCormick for sending me the baking kit, I had a lot of fun creating these vampires with it.

Good luck and thanks for reading!!

Thanks for reading!! I put lots of love into this post, so if you enjoyed it, please leave a comment, share, or subscribe. (As you can probably tell, I'm in constant need of validation, so this keeps me from questioning my self worth and crying into a box of wine) If, by some chance, you didn't enjoy the post, take it up with my personal zombie ninja.

All candy is my favorite on Halloween, but a real treat was when my neighborhood did “boo bags”. You would fill a bag with goodies and leave it on someone elses stoop in your neighborhood with the poem that had directions for them to make the boo bag for another house. After a while, every house in the neighborhood would get a bag, and it really brought the neighbors together, and was really exciting.

As a kid, there was a house on the other end of my small town where the elder couple gave out home-made popcorn balls. And we would all make sure to hit that house up first thing. :)

I’ve been on a pumpkin kick for about a month now. However, the candy that I associate with trick-or-treating and that I’m craving right now is Pixie Stix. Gotta love when it’s ok to just eat your sugar straight.

My Halloween go to is graveyard brownies. They are super easy and cute. Make you favorite boxed brownie. Forsting with chocolate icing. Break apart Hershey candy bars, write RIP on them with white icing and stick them in the brownie. Tint shredded coocnut with green food coloring for grass, sprinkle on brownies. Add a candy “corn” pumpkin and you’re set. Love it. My mom taught me how to make these…that’s why they’re my fave. :)

    Hello!

I LOVED the Munsters when I was little! (Horrible nit-pick alert!: Eddie was a Werewolf though… Lily & Grandpa were Vampires, though…) I loved Lily Munster the most – I wanted to be just like her when I grew up! Now I love Eric and Pam the most… (I’m NOT a Twilight girl though… or a huge fan of Bill…)

We don’t really do Halloween in NZ, but my favourite candy is… Starbusrt Gummy Fruits… I’ve been known to eat them until I get sick…

    Many loves!

It has been our tradition ever since I was informed that I was too old for Trick-or-Treating, that on halloween, we get to dip caramel apples and drizzle and top them with whatever halloween candy we can get our hands on. This is something I enjoyed more than being out Trick-or-Treating anyway :) Your posts always make me smile, and I have tried several of your cute ideas and I just L-O-V-E them! Candy Corn Pumpkins!!! seriously I can’t stop eating them!

But whatever happened to the good classic candy we trick or treated for as kids. I take my kids trick or treating and they don’t have to worry about me eating their candy because it’s all weird and gross now, for the most part I don’t have to worry about them eating it either because they think it’s weird and gross. Bring back the classics people!!

I have to say growing up I was terrified of vampires, werewolves, etc. I’m obsessed with them as an adult, but I agree they were so not what they are today!

Reese’s Pumpkin Shaped Cups. How sad is it that I get snookered by Reese’s at every holiday by buying the holiday shape of each one. Valentine hearts, Christmas trees and I swear if they made turkeys for Thanksgiving and 4 Leaf Clovers for St Patty’s Day, those would be my faves too. (I think it’s because there’s more peanut butter in them)

    Halloween Check List

    1. Buy candy early so the selection is good.
    2. Taste the candy to make sure it’s fresh.
    3. Buy more candy to replace what you ate.
    4. Make sure replacement candy is just as good.
    5. Buy a couple of more bags, but that is it –no more!
    6. Aaaahhh! It’s Halloween and you have no candy!
    7. Turn off the lights and act like no one’s home.
    8. Repeat steps next year.

We have many kinds of Halloween candies and treats that we like, but last year we found a new favorite.
On one of the blogs I found the Melted Wicked Witch candy. How adorable!! After we made them I bagged them in bags and gave them a cute little tag. The neighborhood and daycare kids LOVED them. I really like your vampire cupcakes and I have to agree about the vampires. In my day, ahem, the good looking vampire was Barnabus (sp?) Collins on Dark Shadows!! LOL

I totally revert into being a child again on halloween. I have to have Nerds and Pop Rocks on halloween. On a more sophisticated note, I discovered a pumpkin chocolate cheesecake that is to die for. (Pun definitely intended.) I’m currently trying to figure out how to do mini versions of it.

I luv your blog. My favorite halloween treat is peppermint patty
mints shaped like a pumpkin. I know you can get them all year
long, but the pumpkin shapes with the orange mint filling are so
    cute.

I know they are available year round, but their is something
about the cute pumpkin shape and the orange filling that makes
them adorable. I luv your blog. Keep up the great work!

i love everything halloween and i love to make marshmellow frankies with my kids i just stick a lollipop stick in a large marshmellow dip it onto green candy melts i melted in the microwave them i dip the top into some chocolate sprinkles for hair and add mouth and eyes with melted chololate that i put in a sandwich bag that ive snipped a litte corner to make a small hole so i can pipe on the face. i also love to dip nutter butter cookies on white chocolate and adding two eyes and round mouth for little boo ghosts. i make more stuff but i dont think i will have enough space to put everything. happy halloween.
