Cap’n Crunch Brownies

tag : Brownies, Chocolate, Peanut Butter
by : Kristan

My husband and son are all into those survival shows.

You know, where they drink their own pee and eat soup made from grasshopper legs and all that.

Honestly, I think the whole thing is really dumb.  My son is all “but mom, if I’m ever stranded in the wilderness, I’ll know how to survive and get rescued” and I’m all “well duh, I don’t ever plan on putting myself in that position to BEGIN WITH”.

Because really, there is no excuse for a grown human to be wandering the desert with nothing but a pocket knife, a piece of string, and a handkerchief.

In my opinion, if you really want to teach people to survive, show them how to live off a waitress salary by smuggling dinner rolls and maraschino cherries home in a to-go cup. Way more realistic.

A crash course in Ramen noodles and how far you can get with $2.78 worth of gas without getting stranded are also pretty handy survival lessons.

Just saying.

The thing about these survival people  is that they always wear super expensive clothes. I’m thinking HELLLOOOO, if you can afford $200 North Face boots, why are you clomping in the wilderness picking berries out of deer poop? So confusing.

At least I can do what I need to do in  $19.99 wedges from Payless. So…yeah. Pretty sure I”m the real survival expert around here.

Actually, I might even start my own survival show.

I can teach stuff like how to do your own custom pedicure with a nail art pen. Way funner than drinking your own pee because I don’t care what they say about it being cleaner than most stuff we drink and blah blah blah we all know that there is NO WAY THAT IS TRUE.

Seriously, there are some scientific facts that I just know smart people made up to mess with our minds.

Then they sit around and laugh and do smart equations on their calculators while we drink pee on television and freak out thinking our computer keyboards are dirtier than public toilets.

Anyways.

Besides survival, I am ALSO a brownie expert. So…when I saw THESE brownies on How Sweet I knew I needed to try them. But because I hate doing EXACTLY the same thing as someone else, I added a Cap’n Crunch twist.

Which was a good call. Sugary cereal always is, though, isn’t it?

**adapted from How Sweet It Is

You’ll need:

9×13 pan of brownies, UNBAKED (you can use mix or homemade)

6 Reese’s Cups, chopped (or 30 mini ones, chopped)

1 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips

1 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

1/2 tablespoon butter

2 cups Cap’n Crunch cereal

Bake brownies according to directions, but remove from oven 5 minutes early. Top with chopped Reese’s and return to oven for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack.

In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter. Stir in cereal until evenly coated. Spread over brownies. Refrigerate for 2 hours before cutting into squares and serving.

I hope you love these as much as I did!!

Have a happy Tuesday!!

I’m a proud housewife with a son in the second grade and a sweet baby girl. Like most little boys, my son funny and cute but a little weird. Which only makes me love him more. And the baby? Well...I know she'll sleep eventually. If I could, I would paint my life pink, sprinkle it with glitter, and give everyone a cupcake.

Goodness gracious! These look delicious and have just about everything a girl could want!

My husband and son like those shows, too. What is it with thinking you are going to get lost in the wilderness for days on end that you have to watch a year’s worth of tv to prepare?

Oh my goodness. I need to make these an hour ago because I haven’t had Cap’n Crunch since 1992 and it was my favorite cereal back in the day. Unfortunately, it’s almost midnight and my husband will think I’m crazy if I make him go to the store at this hour for “another crazy baking project.” Especially since I made brownies yesterday. They don’t count, though. I mean, there’s no candy or marshmallows or cereal or anything good mixed into them at all, so they’re practically health food.

You can add to the show how to feed and support two people with one retail job. Oy. I think wandering a desert island would be easier. Especially if they get to have $200 shoes. I’m actually jealous of the poo-scavengers for that.

Also, about pee being clean. “Clean” just means no microbes in it. Probably because bacteria think it’s just as gross as we do. Seriously. Ew.

I really don’t know how I stumbled upon your blog, but I have your favorite coffee cake bookmarked and everytime I come to this site it’s the first thing i see. Of course I haven’t made it yet. But I have good intentions.

    Anyway.

I wanted to tell you that I think I might love you. Which is probably creepy but fear not, I am on the west coast and spend too much time perusing your blog and reading what you write (You are HI.LARIOUS!! ) to actually stalk you. And even if I did you would only have to throw me a cupcake and I’d be good.

(I really am a nice person and note even remotely creepy. But I might still love you…)

I don’t get those shows either, I don’t think winning challenges and outsmarting other teams would really come into play if you were stranded in the wild. Not that I plan on finding out, I ‘d rather be eating these brownies in the safety of my own home.

My husband and kids watch those shows too and I DO NOT GET IT! They are also in the zombie apocalypse, which I’m like…why would I want to learn how to live in a world filled only with zombies anyway. makes no sense.
But these brownies make complete sense. because they rule, and there is also no pee involved, which I consider a plus.

OMG…my husband totally has a man-crush on Bear Grylls. Like, if we ever ran into him in real life, I would suddenly feel the need to drink my own pee so I could prove to my husband that I’m cooler than Bear Grylls…ew. I’m hoping that never happens, not because I’d be drinking my own pee, but because if we ran into Bear Grylls somewhere that means we’d probably be stranded in the middle of the wilderness.

You could totally have your own survival show though, you’re the Macgyver of sugary sweets! These brownies look amazing :)

I am totally on board with the Cap’n although the roof of my mouth is not :O) My survivor show would be to lock those $200. boot wearing, pee drinking fools in a house with my 2 boys (2 &4) for a day in a snow storm/ down pour etc they would have to enterrtain them, cook for them etc ..and just for giggles turn the shut the power down midwaythrough one of the kids favorite shows…….I wonder how long they would survive before raising up a white flag in defeat . :O)
