Homemade Cadbury Eggs
So…confession.
I have never, ever, had a Cadbury Egg.
It’s that runny yolk.
I just can’t handle it.
I mean, I’m sure they are delicious and all, but I just have a really hard time getting past my yolk issues.
Plus, that bunny in the commercial bothers me. Is he supposed to LAY the Cadbury Eggs, because that just gives me another mental hurdle to overcome. Rabbit hair, and all that. (I’m assuming they don’t pop out already wrapped?)
But after I posted my Homemade Peanut Butter Eggs, I had several requests for Cadbury Eggs. I assumed they would be pretty impossible to make, but I Googled it anyways.
Turns out, not so impossible.
I found an awesome recipe and step by step tutorial on Instructibles.com, and I even had all the ingredients on hand.
And listen–I DO realize that Cadbury Eggs are runny in the middle and aren’t flat on one side. But it was easier for me to shape them this way, and I really couldn’t stomach the egg being all runny and gooey.
So no rude comments, please.
(By the way, whoever left the anonymous comment to me about long nails and jewelry being a “mortal sin” when preparing food–seriously, you totally made me laugh. And then I sprinkled myself with glitter, put on all the jewelry I could find and baked up a giant batch of cookies)
Just barely adapted from Instructables.com

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) salted butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Yellow food coloring
Chocolate candy melts or almond bark
In the bowl of a mixer, cream the butter, corn syrup and vanilla until smooth. Slowly add the powdered sugar and beat on medium low speed until well mixed.
Spoon about a third of the mixture into a separate bowl and color it with yellow food coloring. Refrigerate the white and yellow mixtures for at least an hour, for easier handling.
Roll the yellow mixture into balls and place on a wax paper lined baking sheet. Place in the freezer for 20 minutes or so. Remove from freezer and cover with white candy and form into an egg shape. Freeze eggs for about 30 minutes.
Melt your candy melts or almond bark according to package directions. Place eggs in the chocolate and coat completely. Remove and place back on wax paper lined baking sheet. Place in the refrigerator until chocolate has set.
If you want these runny like traditional Cadbury Eggs, keep at room temperature. The candy mixture in the eggs softens very quickly.

Now that I’ve tried the homemade version, I plan on conquering my store bought Cadbury Egg fear this week.
Probably.
More than likely.
Send good thoughts my way.
I hope you have a fabulous Monday. Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Thanks for visiting my blog! I realize you could be doing more important things with your time. Like watching the news or washing socks. I hope you stay awhile. Much more fun than socks, I promise.

I am obsessed with Cadbury Eggs and used to steal them from my brothers baskets! I LOVE them. If I tried these I would devour them all!
How are you always so creative?! Your cadbury eggs look better than the original!
These look more real then the real ones! Fantastic job!
So for this, Oprah might say something like, "GENIUS! Geeeeeee-nnnnius! Genius, GEN.IUS! Genius."
Also, if you type "genius" enough, it really doesn't look like a word anymore at all. See, I always learn so much from you.
I LOVE Cadbury Cream Eggs! I stock up every year, but no matter how much I buy, they never last much past Easter. I put them either in the fridge or the freezer and let them set up before eating them. (I hide mine in the vegetable drawer, no one ever goes in there!) They are much better that way then room temp in my opinion.
I've never had a Cadbury Egg either! The runny gooey stuff freaks me out too. My favorite part about the commercial with the "Cadbury Bunny Audition" is the cat that goes "Buck-Meow, Buck-Meow"! It gets me giggling every time!
I've never tasted cream eggs before either, but yours look great! Thanks for the recipe.
LOL glitter!!! I like the lion in the Cadbury commercials!
Love the Cadbury Egg; though they seem to be getting smaller every year and more expensive. I actually grew up making the Laura Secord eggs, which is totally a Canadian phenomena. The inside is not runny by the way. My mom used to make three big ones and you cut a slice off. Mmm…so good. Now I am sad I didn't choose to make them this year. *sigh*
Oh I'm in Heaven! I love cadbury cream eggs & can't wait for them to come out each year. Now I can have them all year long YAY! My stomach loves you, even though I'm sure my thighs will hate you lol Thanks for always making me laugh with your awesome blog!
I freaking love Cadbury eggs. Like you, I used to think the inside looked disgusting, until I tried one. Oh my goodness….seriously, it's sugar overload basically. YUM.
OMG, I thought I was the only one who has never eaten a Cadbury Egg because of how it looked. :O) My mom who loves these things, would put them in my Easter Basket every yr and I would give it to either her or one of my brothers. They just skeeved me out. :O)I will have to make these to for my mom. ALTHOUGH I ABSOLUTLEY LOVE CADBURY CARAMEL EGGS! Those are super good.
I'm a new blog stalker I mean follower, and you have yet to make anything that I dont want to stuff my face with! I am not a fan of Cadbury eggs either, however the carmel ones are a whole different story! I would eat a box of them! But you even made these look tasty! AMAZING! (sorry about all the ! I get a little excited over sugar)
Lord! Someone gave you grief over your hand attire?! Some people need a rather large chill pill. But anyway…I used to love Cadbury Creme Eggs, and then I took a bite of my son's last Easter. Whoa! I'm still on a sugar high! Love the idea of making them though.
Oh no, I showed these to my boyfriend and he almost died. He actually ate two of the real Cadbury Eggs today and he requested that I don't make these so he wouldn't be tempted to eat thirty of them ;)
My husband just informed me that this recipe is now MANDATORY. Guess I'll break out the sugar. :)
Hooray! Hoorayyyy!!! Although the gooey part of store-bought eggs is, I think, part of the awesome-ness of them, these look fantastic. Good luck conquering your fear of Cadbury eggs this week. (Or, be like me, and wait until Monday when they'll be on sale.)
Eeegaads lady…you can even make a Cadbury Egg look good!! I'm jealous. :)
Cadbury eggs were always my favorite BECAUSE of the runny center. :P
Yours look awesome! I didn't think they were possible to make either, but now that there's an actual recipe I'll HAVE to give it a try!
Thanks for facing your runny egg fears to bring us this delight! I for one, am an absolute lover of Cadbury eggs, and homemade eggies have got to be tops!
Long nails and jewelry taken into consideration, you can still make me homemade peanut butter chocolate eggs any time.
I've never tried a Cadbury egg for the exact same reason. They just seem wrong to me.
I love you!!! This is amazing! I love Cadbury eggss! My waist is saying "no," but I think I need to try a batch!
Yum! Not sure I'll make these. That many in the house would be DANGEROUS! They look delicious.
I heart Cadbury Eggs… gotta have them at Easter!
These look better than Cadbury eggs. The center isn't runny!
A) I can't do the Cadbury Egg either, I bake with it, but can't really eat it. I also was a Laura Secord egg girl!
B) I hope you sprinkled glitter IN the cookies.
C) These look delicious!
I use a similar recipe to make creme caramel filled chocolates. IF you leave it in the fridge long enough to "ripen", it actually starts to soften more! :)
Sending you good thoughts this week as you prepare to overcome your runny yolk aversion (as for the bunny hair and all…maybe a quick washing of the egg before you try to eat it LOL) You did a fabulous job with these! Your little bunny in the background with the polka dot egg is so cute.
I am thanking you on behalf of my husband, like you I do not enjoy cadbury eggs, but he loves them! I will be making both your peanut butter egg and your cadbury egg this weekend :-) Thanks so much!
I saw a recipe for these earlier on the internet but wasn't sure how they'd turn out. I'm so glad you did the guess work for me, they are darling and look great!
After being "Cookbook Queen-ified" I do believe that these look better than the real thing.
Love this recipe and have almost all of the ingredients at home! Thanks for sharing can't wait to whip up a batch.
I've never had a Cadbury Egg either, I didn't even know the middle was runny – gross!
And as far as cooking with jewelry – they are just jealous that you look so fab all the time, meanwhile they are cooking with curlers in their hair, wearing a robe a slippers with no makeup on. Next time you make cookies, picture that image and smile at how beautiful you are :)
I'm sending this to my mom, she has a fetish for Cadbury eggs. I'm the peanut butter egg freak. Lol on the mortal sin. You're blogging and baking for your family & friends, not catering. People need to relax a little.
You are really not missing anything. The peanut butter ones were always better. The runny yolk just makes you think of salmonella. But it is impressive that you can make them!
You are hilarious! I love your stories :) I love how you just put everything out there. Your recipes look amazing too…can't wait to try both versions of your homemade "eggs"…the peanut butter ones look irresistable! Thanks for a great blog…I look forward to reading it every day!
I'm with you. I've never tried the Cadbury eggs either. 1.) They are bunny poop. 2.) They haven't been cooked yet and RAW EGGS WILL KILL US ALL. Unless the raw egg is in cookie dough or brownie batter, because the sugar makes it safe. Obviously.
Cadbury eggs are my favorite thing about easter. They are so yummy! I am going to make these. Thanks!
I must have died and gone to HEAVEN! Cadbury creme eggs are my favorite candy of all time and my body is so thankful that they come out only once a year… UNTIL NOW. Thanks for sharing your recipe! I can't wait to make them. My husband will think this is hilarious that I can make my own, all year round now.
I have up and gone to heaven!!!!!!!!!!!! I adore cadbury eggs, espically the runny insides. I usually bite the top off, and then suck the insides out, then eat the rest of the egg. I bursted out laughing when I saw you say something about glitter, long nails and jewelry. Had to share with my roommates, and they had a chuckle too. Mortal sin my ass! Anyways, good luck facing your fears, trust me, you'll love every bite of it, once you get over the idea of the "yolk". Good luck!! And thanks for the recipes!!!!
These are my fave!! And i love that's there's way more creme than shell. Thats my favorite part!
yay!! I love cadbury eggs! but even my love for the taste can not over come my hatred for the goeey center. I store mine in the fridge so they are not gooey when I eat them!
also poo on the person that made the comment about nails or rings.. whatever.. I have nails and I wear my rings when I cook and bake lol. My thinking is… hey Im not cooking in a 5 start restaurant lol, my family could care less and they are who I cook for lol.
the only problem with making them at home is it's not Cadbury chocolate which it's pretty distinct and absurdly delicious. Other than that the recipe is pretty good if your craving one when they aren't in season.
I bet these are much better than the original!
I used to be scared of them, too….until my roommate in college clued me in to their deliciousness. She always bought ONE…the first one she saw when they came out for the season.
I think yours definitely look less scary, though! They are "hard boiled" Cadbury eggs! ;)
So I have tried Cadbury Eggs, I find the fact they're candy, yet look like real eggs on the inside very appealing and humorous…..but I hate them! They're disgusting to me. I think it's just too much sugar for my taste. However, MINI Cadbury eggs, the ones that are just milk chocolate with a hard shell?? I freaking LOVE them. I'll eat a whole bag to myself in one sitting. It's bad. And I make a very stern effort not to walk down the Easter isle too many times because I have no will power when it comes to those babies. And last time I went through the forbidden isle there were no more Mini Cadbury Eggs. :( My heart broke a little.
These are so cute! What a fun idea for Easter. Thanks for sharing!
I've no problem with yolk. Zippo. Cadbury eggs are my Easter favorite, so thank you for this! I posted a link on ediblecrafts.craftgossip.com too :)
oh my gosh… SO ADDORABLE!!!!
My daughter will love you, my girl is potty trained due to these things!
I'm in love with this recipe…officially.
Ever since I found out that I can't eat these anymore since they started putting the dreaded "processed in a facility with peanuts/nuts" label on them this year, I have been planning to make them myself! I'm really glad to see that I can make them without needing to buy egg molds. I can't wait to give these a try – thanks for making it look so easy!!
great recipe! i'll probably temper real chocolate because i hate the palm kernel oil in the candy melts. nothing beats cocoa butter! for those who want them REALLY runny you can buy an egg candy mold online http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&q=egg+molds+chocolate&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=1612025780692071343&sa=X&ei=LW2sTbDuLs600QGqitn5CA&ved=0CDAQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers, coat with melted tempered chocolate or melted candy melts, turn upside down and let set. Then fill with the liquid fondant. There is an enzyme called invertase that is added to sugar to liquefy it. That's what's used to make the liquid center of the creme egg. You can buy it online also. It liquefies at room temperature. SO… you must chill both sides of the eggs, then, on a warm surface, or with a small flame, heat one side to adhere to the other half. let set. once the product comes to room temp, you will have a real creme egg!
I know I already commented but I had to come back to pass on a Blogger Award to you! Your blog seriously cracks me up! Since I'm borderline stalker material, I thought it was only fitting. :) Please head on over to my blog for details, you don't have to stay long, just grab your award!
I never would have thought it was so easy! I love the "yolk" part. :-)

I personally love the runny centers and dont like the chocolate shells (I eat the center with a spoon and my husband eats the chocolate shell). Your recipe sounds fun so cant wait to try it out.
Hi Kristan! I just wanted to let you know how much I love your blog, while the things you create in the kitchen aren't something I have a need to make everyday I still come back every morning to see if I can create vicariously through this beautiful blog! Thank you for your funny posts and incredible treats!
Ha, ha, you go girl. Sounds like something I would do- the complete opposite of whatever advice busybodies like to dump on perfectly happy people. More power to jewlery and glitter!! Sending best wishes and happy thoughts to you. Keep up the good work.
you are hilarious! Love your blog!
My love for Cadbury Eggs is so strong I must try these!
PS: I choose to believe he has a magic wand behind his tail that he uses to make the eggs appear.
PPS: I love that you throw on glitter before baking. ;0)

Wasn't it in the 50's when women would be in the kitchen with pearls, full makeup, nails done, high heels on, etc?
It's astounding that anyone would pass judgment online about something like pretty nails!
Your creativity and talent is endless! Love these. Great job on these homemade cadbury eggs.
What a wickedly good reason to overdose on sugar!
Yum! I am making these right now although I don't think I used the right corn syrup but the yolks still taste great!
Heya,
After reading what you said about some anonymous reader complaining about stuff, I thought I would sent ya some good ol' blogging love.
I love love love your blog. I visit it every day! You're great inspiration for my own blog (Grace Cakes) and I love your blogging style.
Please don't change anything about you, cos you're awesome!
Oh my God you make me laugh so hard. I've always loved your blog but you have truely come into your own (so to speak) lately. I love it! You are like a culinary Kasey Buick (if you don't know Kasey, trust me, it's a HUGE compliment). :)
ive never had the cadbury eggs either i dont like how they look also lol
I feel like I already comment on this post…but I don't think I did. I was just telling my husband about these…he claims he has never had one either! Unbelievable! So I think it is very important that I make these very very soon! Thanks for the recipe :)
Laughing about the "mortal sin" comment.. obviously that reader has never watched the cooking channel show "Bitchin' Kitchen". (if you've never seen it, you should watch it, it's hilarious!)
I am making these right now!!! Can't wait to see how they turn out.
How fun! I shared on my blog today with a link to you. Hope that's okay! Thanks for sharing.
Many blessings,
Holly

The eggs sound great, but the best part…glitter, more jewelry and cookies!! LOVE it. I think you may be my new personal hero!
Stumbled on your post through Pinterest, and am SO SO happy! I was recently diagnosed with a corn allergy and was lamenting the fact that I would never again eat a Cadbury egg. No more tears! I can make my own, just substituting something else for the corn syrup! <3
I spent 5 years in England when I was growing up, and Cadbury’s Cream Eggs became one of my favorite treats. Still is. I get them every Easter for myself, but my husband and kids won’t try them. All because of the runny yolk. So funny they are not the only ones!
I LOVE Creme eggs, I recently moved to Germany from the UK, and i’m craving cadburys. Thanks so much for these. Will be sureto test them. My friends and family are sending over the real things soon :D

I found you through Pinterest & am hooked after reading the first post. Love your sense of humor.
I want to know if anyone else tried these? Someone who loves the cadbury eggs? I have never tried them for same reason.. they look nasty. THese however are not runny and I know plenty of people who’d love me for making these but I am one of those people who only bake things that are better than what you can buy… I’m OCD with baking lol. I saw another recipe like this but used cane sugar… idk if it makes a difference? anyway if someone has made these who is a huge cadbury lover let me know how close they taste :D
I love your sense of humor! You are doing great. < Your validation. ;) The recipe looks good, and fairly easy too, and I like easy. :-) Thank you!

Have made something similar to this using the yellow layer from Nanaimo bars as the yolk part. It is Bird’s Eye Custard Powder, butter, milk and icing sugar.; adding enough icing sugar firms up the consistency for moulding. Coat with melted vanilla or chocolate dipping wafers.
I have never tried Cadbury eggs either, they look too much like raw eggs and totally gross me out! So… when my husband requested I try making them (after I started selling my homemade goodies), I wrinkled my nose and said I would try. Thank you so much for sharing your tips!

I so can’t stand runny yokes. I’m glad to know there are others out there. Just a quick question though … what happened to the Peanut Butter Eggs? I clicked on the link and was came back page not found. So sad, really really love Peanut Butter Easter Eggs.
