Thin Mint Truffles

thin mint truffles

I very rarely have actual conversations on the phone.

Like…with my voice.

Because if at all possible, I text.

I text my pastor.

I text my nail lady.

I text my son’s karate teacher.

I don’t really know if you’re supposed to text your pastor or your son’s karate teacher, but neither of them have ever complained so I’m assuming they are fine with it.

And honestly, if they texted me back saying that they weren’t fine with it, I would just pretend I didn’t get it and I would continue to communicate with them via text message.

Seriously, I think that being a housewife has made me a bit antisocial, and I just hate when I just want to say one thing and I have to have a whole conversation. Not because I don’t enjoy talking to people, but because I really have nothing to say.

I stay home.

All day.

For a living.

What is there for me to offer to a conversation? That I’m disgusted with Alex from the Dr. Phil Family?

That I suspect that someone in my family isn’t using their towels at least twice like I’ve asked?

That I bought ANOTHER tube of overpriced lip gloss which I didn’t really NEED but I was bored and plus, this might finally be the shade that really makes me look super awesome?

Seriously. Those are the things that fill my days.

I should probably start watching the real news instead of E! News, even though E! is way more entertaining, just so I will have something to offer to conversation.

Because I have a feeling that no one wants to talk about how many towels I had to wash yesterday or what is new with Charlie Sheen (duh, winning).

Also have you HEARD what Miley Cyrus is up to lately? Seriously, I am so judging her.

See? Not good at talking about important things.

Lets talk about food, want to? I’m much better at that.

As usual, I bought way too many Girl Scout cookies. Mostly Thin Mints. So…I decided to make truffles with them.

It was a good choice.

*Adapted from the Kraft.com recipe for Oreo Truffles

INGREDIENTS

9 oz box of Thin Mints
4 oz (1/2 block) cream cheese, softened
Dark chocolate almond bark or dark chocolate candy melts
Nonpareils

Crush the Thin Mints very finely. You can do this by placing them in a large Ziploc bag and rolling them with a rolling pin, or use your food processor, which is what I did.

Once they are crushed, pour them in a large bowl and add the cream cheese. I would like to say that you can just mix it up with a wooden spoon, but if you want to do things properly you are going to have to get your hands involved. Squish them up real good until it’s thoroughly combined and the cream cheese is no longer visible.

Roll into 1 inch balls, place on a wax paper lined baking sheet, and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.

Melt almond bark or candy melts and using a toothpick, dip truffles completely and twirl to allow the excess to drip off. Place back on lined baking sheet and sprinkle with nonpareils before set. Refrigerate until firm.

*Makes about 24 truffles.

These were really, really yummy. Sooo…you should probably make them.

That’s it. I don’t have anything else to talk about.

Have a happy Monday and thank you for stopping by!!

Thanks for reading!! I put lots of love into this post, so if you enjoyed it, please leave a comment, share, or subscribe. Yum, these look so good! I just bought some thin mints from my client's daughter and I can not keep my hands off of them!

I am with you when it comes to the news, I only know what is going on with the celebrities and whatever world news they are involved in. I watched CNN recently and got too depressed and went back to E News!

My sister and I have a party on my blog every sunday, you should stop by to check it out and link up this recipe if you have a chance.

    Thanks!

I also am a housewife by profession and choice. I know the exact feeling of not having anything important to say! Not like every conversation has to stimulating or anything, just why would you want to have a whole conversation when what you really want to say is, "We'll be 15 minutes late. See you then." I used to be pretty outgoing in high school. Now I hide in the closet when the Fed Ex guy comes! lol

I am the SAME way when it comes to texting vs. calling! I figure that if it's am emergency, then I'll call someone. If no one is bleeding profusely or unconscious, then a text is totally okay. My co-worker is always making snooty remarks about how texting is "so impersonal." Well, thank you very much, Ms. Snooty Pants, but I'm gonna keep on textin' till my fingers fall off! ;)

I prefer to live in my bubble and not watch the "real" news anyway. If I want to get depressed, sure I will watch it but until then I'll live in my bubble. :) I too love my texting. I don't have voice mail on my cell, I'm so bad at returning calls. Love the idea of the truffles, thanks. :)

I am also dissgusted with the train wreck that is Alex. Though, like most train wrecks… Can't stop watching.

You know what's funny? I'm not a stay at home Mom but work outside the house, but really, does anyone want to hear about the work that I've been doing all day? People mention newspaper articles and I stare at the blankly – do you think I have time? And, do you think that I want to spend the time I do have reading the Wall Street Journal? Uh…no, not really.

I'd rather make these cookies – now I just have to find a Girl Scout!!!

These are awesome. I would have loved to have one but my family ate all the girl scout cookies without offering me one.

Texting is just a new form of communication. There is an art to it. And now when you have to talk to someone on the phone, what a pain in the ass is that! And not calling back right away. It is so much easier to write in haiku form:

    You ate my cookies
    I will never forgive you
    Go get a new box

But then I re-read your instructions and when I saw it was based on the recipe for Oreo Cookie truffles, I realized I could add mint extract to the Oreo's and get the same result.

I am making these later today! AND I wanted to let you know that I found thin mint cookies at Dollar General that taste JUST like the GS cookies for only $1.95 per box!!! No more destroying the real ones…Hallelujah Chorus!!! The only difference is that they are a yellow cookie…not chocolate. I am sure the inside of the truffle will look different but the taste is all that matters! Thank you for this recipe and I enjoyed you blog! Blessings your way!

I stumbled across your site and it made my day. I am a stay at home house wife with no kids. Yeah, I feel exactly the same way. I have nothing to talk about so I feel like the social leper, then again when I did have a job I was busy or to tired to have time to talk to people. Any way, I just wanted to say that there is at lest one other person that feels/has the same thoughts. And yes since I was able to reply with typing versus talking, that increased my response by 100%.

I have been wanting to try this same truffle from the Oreo truffle recipe, but haven’t had the chance…the last adaptation I did was with red velvet cake and they were sinful! Anyway, I’m not sure if anyone else has commented on this as I didn’t read through them all, but Keebler has a Thin Mint replica and they are called Fudge Shoppe Grasshoppers and they taste EXACTLY the same for those wanting to make these “out of season”.

PS they have a Samoa/Caramel Delite copy too called, Coconut Dreams ;)

Hey Kristan! Found your site via Love From The Oven, and her cake pop variation on your gorgeous truffles. Thought I’d let you know you were hat-tipped over at my site – Mint Truffle Cake Pops!. Added you to my reading list :)
