Pot of Gold Cupcakes
When you’re the mom who can make cool snacks, everyone assumes that you’re one of those people who really has their life in order.
I can assure you, that is not the case.
Not with me, anyways.
All these fun treats are meant to distract from the fact that I have no clue what is going on.
I think it usually works.
So let’s pretend that I definitely didn’t lose my $40 camera battery charger this morning, my house ISN’T a huge mess from tearing it apart looking for said charger, and I haven’t been planning on just ironing my son’s karate uniform pants instead of washing them for his pictures this afternoon.
I’m pretty sure that if they’re nice and unwrinkly, it will make them look clean.
I do that with jeans sometimes.
Kidding–of course I don’t!!
Okay. I do.
Stop judging.
Wanna know how to make these easy peasy St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes?
I cut some inexpensive wooden skewers in half, inserted them in donut holes, and dipped in melted candy. I used dark chocolate candy melts, colored with black candy coloring (I usually buy my candy coloring at Hobby Lobby or Michaels).
Stick the skewers in a block of styrofoam or floral foam and while wet, attach a cut piece of black licorice and yellow mini M&M’s. Make sure the M&M’s don’t all lay flat–you want some of them standing up to give dimension.
Once set, stick skewers in cupcakes frosted with green frosting. I sprinkled my frosting with these pretty green sugar pearls.
If you need a good frosting recipe, click HERE for the tutorial on the butter cream I always use.
For cute cupcake liners, sprinkles, and gel food coloring, check out Sweet! Baking Supply. She has tons of cute stuff and shipping is always fast.
Just remember–Febreeze is a busy mom’s best friend.
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fabulous day!!

Thanks for visiting my blog! I realize you could be doing more important things with your time. Like watching the news or washing socks. I hope you stay awhile. Much more fun than socks, I promise.

These are so darn cute! Perfectly crafted for St. Patty's.
Oh Girlfriend! You Rock, house trashed or not, you rock. These are awesome! Sharing on my FB page in a few min!
Totally adorable. I don't iron. But I do spray with that downy wrinkle releaser instead of washing sometimes. So I won't judge.
A donut hole?!? You are just so darn clever, Kristan!
And don't blow my image of you. I just know those karate pants are washed and starched!
Genius!!! These are just perfect!!! And such a bummer about the charger. Wish I could magically make it appear! ;)
Cute!
WOW!
Excellent, as usual. You come up with the coolest ideas. (The ironing is a hot idea. We have to do whatever works, right?)
OMG! Way too cute! Hey, at least you iron. My method of ironing consisting of "shaking out the wrinkles". I've apparently passed it down to my two year old, as she "shakes" her shirts when she gets a hold of them.
My house is in a disaster state, I wasn't looking for a charger though. A 2 year old amd a 10 month old are great fodder for my blog though, so I bake around them. Mine don't look half as nice so I envy you! :) These are beautiful and I can't wait to see more!
(Febreeze is my secret lover too!)
Love how everything is edible… cute, cute, cute!
Wow, those cupcakes are fantastic! I can't believe how beautiful they are.
awesome! I tried to male something like this last year but my brain collapsed and I made the pots green and my husband thought that I made stuffed cabbage toppers. Not a shining moment ;)
They would convince me you have your life in order:-)
I love gooooolllld!
(and these cupcakes.)
I can totally relate to the fun projects but messy house!! These are too cute! I think just the donut pot of gold would be cute on it's own!
No judging here, I sometimes use the ironing trick too, or when I'm really lazy things just get thrown in the dryer for a bit. Such a brilliant cupcake idea, they look amazing.
I totally get it, I don't belong to the "life in order" club either, still trying to figure out how to get my membership. I'm always wowed by your creativity, how do you think of this stuff? Doughnut holes are such a good idea!
So creative and cute! love em!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! tooo cute!!!!
Kristan, you are amazing!!! How freaking cool is that!!!! LOVE IT:)
Only you could look at a donut hole and see a pot of gold! Hope you find that battery charger.
SO smart. And doughnuts and cupcakes get married in the end? Dream come true.
These are so cute. The M&Ms are my favorite part, I think.
super cute! doughnut holes and skewers. awesome.
Ok you just totally made my day! I swear I just washed all my daughter's pants but when it came time for school, she had no clean school pants so I dug a pair out of the laundry and ironed them! I love all your cute ideas too!
This comment has nothing to do with your fabulous cupcakes, even though I admire and love them. I just wanted to let you know I'm a follower & I wanted to thank you for posting. Reading your stories make me smile and laugh, I love your blog and wanted to thank you for all of the hard work that you put into it. So thanks! Have a good one!
you just amaze me every day!!!
donut hole = pot of gold? genius!
These pots o' gold are so cute! I LOVE them! Thanks for the laugh this morning, Kristan:)
These are precious! Just precious!
You never cease to amaze me! Brilliant. I posted a link on ediblecrafts.craftgossip.com :)
Wow! These are so freakin' cute! I can't believe that the whole thing is edible too!! I would have such a hard time not eating all the doughnut holes before they got onto the cupcakes! HAHA
oh man this is rediculously adorable I love it. thanks so much for sharing!
Ok, that is super cute! I would have never thought to use a doughnut hole. Love the "gold".
These are fabulous! You totally made me think your life is in order. I wouldn't even iron the karate pants. I would throw them in the dryer with a wet towel.
Love the idea! So much fun. I'm going to have to try it out. What is this iron gadget you speak of? :P
Oh my god, I love you. I first found this post as a link on Be Different Act Normal. Then I read your post on girl scout cookies and was laughing hysterically. Now I am a follower and have you bookmarked. Thank you for being so darn real :)
P.S. I'm glad you found a good use for the iron as mine just collects dust!
Love these! So adorable!
Oh goodness! Every time I see you post something, I think- there's no way she can top that, then you do! These are too cute! I might actually attempt them!
These are awesome!! I can't believe how easy they are too…you are so creative! And, I'm not judging…I love those wrinkle-free sprays where you can just spray and toss them in the dryer for a few minutes. :-)
these are adorable and very creative
I would never judge. You are much too cool! :)
I thought it was going to be a buckeye, as in the peanut butter and chocolate variety! yummmm
These cupcakes are so cute and clever! Just the right amount of frosting on them, too – a LOT. I just discovered your blog and love your sense of humor.
P.S. I'm not even sure if I own an iron. Seriously.
How adorable … love ur other blog posts too .
These are SO cute! PLEASE, come on over and link up to MMM :)
Just came across your amazing and funny blog. Love these – hope you don't mind that I featured you today on my blog. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to come back and see what else you dream up!

Dryer, a damp towel and a bounce sheet… the key to never having to iron again (and the key to making worn clothes "fresh")
These are adorable! I love your site, found it from Party at the parkers blog. I know exactly what you mean about ironing instead of washing! wink wink
I love this! Such a good Idea, I may borrow this idea next week for St. Patties day. Thank you, brilliant!
These are fantastic!!! Sharing these treasures with my readers – hope you don't mind. Your creativity and humor never cease to amaze me. You rock!
A clean and organized home is sometimes (most usually) very over rated. It's way cooler when you are the mom who brings the cupcakes that all of the kids go ga-ga over, to the school party! I will be trying these out tonight, I love being the cool mom :)
