Since there is only me, my husband, and my three year old, almost every night is a family night. We play the Wii together a lot. Also, we love to go to the park in the summer. Once a month my son and I go and pick up daddy at work for a lunch date. This last month we went to Subway and then to the museum at the university (my husband works at the university). It was a lot of fun. I know family night will get harder as my boy gets older, so we enjoy a lot of them now.

A few confessions:

I very rarely enjoy playing games. Board games, card games, and video games included.

I have, on occasion, told my son that a game was “missing pieces” as an excuse to not play it with him.

I have told my son I would watch a movie with him, only to sit next to him and sneak texts to my friends/Tweet/Facebook/read a magazine or book.

As important as love of books is to me, there have been times that I turned down a request from my son for a story because I was too busy, my throat hurt, or he chose the longest boringest book ever and really, why can’t we just read Where the Wild Things Are? Short, fun, and interesting pictures.

I am not proud of any of these facts. Honestly, they go against everything I think I stand for as a mom. But as much as I want to be perfect and fun and drop everything for Candy Land, a story and a snuggle, or Toy Story (AGAIN??), life sometimes gets in the way.

And every now and again, I’m just plain selfish. I’m human.

One thing I’ve learned though, is that my time is the most important gift I can give my son. And in order to give that to him, I need to schedule it. Set aside an hour, an afternoon, or even ten minutes in the evening for my kid.

I mean…his hair smells good and he’s pretty cute. So I’d say he’s definitely worth my time.

Plus, he knows karate. And I don’t.

gamenight

In light of all this, when Orville Redenbacher’s contacted me about providing me with everything I needed for a family night, I was all about it. It was the perfect opportunity for me to set aside an entire evening to spend time with my son and husband.

The awesome people at Orville Redenbacher’s provided me with:

Flip Camera
$10 Snapfish gift certificate
2 Boxes of movie candy
Free Redbox movie rental
Twister

Orville Redenbacher’s Pop and Win Popcorn

And guess what? They want to send all that stuff to one of you guys, too!!
Another exciting thing about this gift is that the new Orville Redenbacher’s Pop and Win Popcorn gives you the opportunity to win tons of cool prizes.  All you have to do is pop the popcorn, which reveals a heat activated code. Enter your code in at orville.com/popandwin to redeem your code and see if you’ve won even more prizes!
We popped four bags (um…in a row) and two of them were winners! We won another free Redbox movie rental and a free movie theatre box of M&Ms. The Pop and Win popcorn is only available for a limited time, so snag it up now.
Seriously, my kid had fun just popping it and checking the code.

I might have enjoyed it too.

Okay, the fourth bag was all me. I like prizes.

gamenight2
We had tons of fun playing Twister even though it is not a very figure flattering game.
gamenight3
And the one Twister picture where my fat wasn’t hanging out, I was making a weird face.
Sorry.
My son manages to look good in all of them. What can I say? He’s a handsome fellow.

I think my last family night was actually more of a family dinner gathering with my parents for my mom's birthday a few weeks ago. It's always so much fun to gather the family around the dinner table and just talk & eat for hours!

My husband and I have an 18 month old daughter, so we try to have family night every night. We read books together, play with puzzles, and watch a Brainy Baby episode with her. Rarely an evening goes by where we don't get some good two-on-one time together.

Our last family fun night was last week. We had dinner together and then watched a movie together. It's not very often we get to do this because my husband works night shift. When he is off we try to do things together and have fun. We popped popcorn and laughed together and it was great!

Aw, this is such a sweet post.

I haven't had a family night in a very long time… Since I left for college, I feel like my entire family has become so divided. Even my mom, step dad and little brother seem like they never interact with one another, and they live together. It's not that they're mad at each other or anything – they just have their own stuff going on. It makes me kind of sad…

Anyway, on a less sappy note, your son is absolutely adorable and you are my hero for posting that Twister photo (especially twice)!

    Love love love your blog.

I live in my own, family night usually involves travelling, so it was Christmas Eve, i guess. everyone goes to my parents and we have lobster rolls, pizza and many, many sweets.
I guess you could say I had a family night tonight, i am watching my nephew while his parents are away; we made ice cream pies, and watched a couple of movies!

Our last family "night" was yesterday TBH. We all piled in the Tahoe and hubby drove out along the inlet of Alaska, and we went in search of glaciers, moose, the sun, and anything else we could find. My hubby and kids found a frozen lake where the three of them, and the dog went out and wandered (in the blistering cold mind you) while I stayed in the truck and took pictures. *I can't go walking with them b/c of a work injury* :( But we all had fun yelling out the wildlife we found. The best ones were the three in the car with me :)

Our last "family night" (if you can call it that, since we are engaged, and only have a puppy dog as a kidling) … was last night! or today even! We did tons of spring cleaning and organized our storage. Then we took the cute puppy on a walk and he tried to chase squirrels.

This is our (baby) family :)

Our last family night was Friday night. My kids like games and puzzles so my daughter decided we should do them at least once a week when daddy was home. Friday nights at our house are "Game & Puzzle Night." If some of us are too tired on Friday night, then we have it sometime over the weekend. Everyone gets to pick either a game or a puzzle. We always have a good time.

I'd like to win!! My last family game night was a few weeks ago, I think the 18th of February. We hung out with some siblings and their one kid with our baby crawling around watching us play Balderdash. We ate pizza, had ice cream,-the works. My little family of 3 (me, husband, 10 month baby) had a full day of errand running then a nice dinner out yesterday, so that was our last family (non-game) night.

What started out as a quiet night at home turned into music and laughing and 3 hours worth of darts! Was simply perfect.

We all work different times in our house and Mondays seemed to work out. Recently, my husband's and daughter's schedules have changed so we are working on finding another day or night for family time.

Family night is sometimes a pretty hard thing to do because it seems like everyone is going in so many different directions. Our last family night was a little over a month ago when American Idol started. We all were able to sit down and watch some of the auditions. It was so fun to all be together and be able to enjoy each others company and simply laugh at some of the auditions! And of course there was popcorn!

Um, I can't remember when we had our last family night. That is so sad! Our kids are young so most of the time we spend reading books, jumping on the bed (not me, I'm waaaaay to old and out of shape for that) or playing with toys around the house.

We just had Indian scrabble night. Others were mexican, italian, korean and hungarian. The next one in April will be Uruguayan believe it or not :)

Our last family night was last night!! My kids are 2 1/2 & 4 and they saw an episode of Bubble Guppies regarding camping and S'MORES! I have never had a S'more..luckily my husband has…. I DON'T CAMP!! In a cabin yes..in a sleeping bag on the floor with a million bugs and possible snake and bear sightings…NO :) Anyway, knowing I will never take them camping, we had our own camp fire (less the fire) in our living room! They had such a blast but realized they didn't like the traditional smore, but they did like daddy's graham cracker PB & chocolate hybrid :) They had a blast and were cheering all night that they were at a camp fire :) Is was too cute!

I'm not sure we've EVER had a family game night, unless you count putting together dinosaur puzzles with my 3-year-old. In which case, yesterday.

I am lucky that my teenage daughter sets up a "family" night at least once a week. She loves old movies so we are always looking for them on tv or she goes and orders them from the local library. She is such a retro girl and for me it brings back memories of when I was her age and we had just gotten cable in our part of the country. It was my first introduction into the movies ( which were all from the 50's & 60's)!!

I tend to be like you and rarely like to initiate a game night however we just spent a fun night camping in the backyard. After gooey smores we retreated to the tent and played cranium's Cadoo game. So fun! My 6 year old son had just as much fun as my 11 yr old daughter. I'm impressed with you….Twister is a game that I usually just watch from the sidelines. I tend to volunteer to be the "arrow spinner". My hubby loves it though maybe it's because he's 6'1" a good foot taller than me.

It's a GREAT time for us to just be together & not scattered all over the house :) GREAT giveaway & I LOVE your blog…always full of laughter & giggles!! Kim B.

We have a 16 month old so we have family nights every night. Well, not your traditional family night, but we always have family dinner and play time- as much as a 16 month old can handle! I can't wait for family movie nights and game nights when she's a little older. For now, most evenings it's just me and the hubby after my daughter goes to sleep!

Oh family game nights….the bickering, the name calling, the long held in grudges only to be lashed out at some unsuspecting moment. Wait, that's not a common game night? Just kidding, sort of. I come from a family of nine so games are frequent and competition is thick. But at the end of it all we have a good time and still love each other :)This package would be awesome for my large clan

Our family nights are a big deal. Like a huge deal. My husband is gone a lot for work – like a lot a lot. Last year he was gone for 5 consecutive months. And this year he's already been gone for an entire month. – so when he's home, our family nights are faaaabulous! We sang a little song, said a little prayer, had a little lesson, and then played ring-around-the-rosies with our 2 and 14 month olds. Then we cranked up the music and had a dance party. It was awesome. Like pause the moment of life for a minute awesome.

Thanks for the chance to win something to make our family nights even BETTER!

But I want to play more games with them as they get older. Course, with a new one on the way, that may take a while. Still, I can WATCH them play Twister, and take video.
