Minions

I’d have to say that I’m really not a big fan of sweat.
Or bugs.
Or dirt.
Or people wearing tiny shorts that really, REALLY, don’t need to be wearing tiny shorts.
And don’t get me started on Man-sandals. Not that I have anything against the sandals themselves, or a man’s right to air out his feet.
I’d just rather not see it, that’s all.
For these reasons, I prefer to spend my Summer doing nice, cool, indoor activities.
Like going to the movies.
Air conditioning, a big box of candy, some salty, over-buttered popcorn….now there’s an idea I can get behind.
Because my little boy is only 5, most of the movies we see are of the animated variety. Most recently, Despicable Me.
Which I totally loved.
I loved it so much, that after the movie I vowed to change my “not having any more kids” rule if and ONLY IF, I could adopt the little girl from the movie.
The “it’s so fluffy I’m gonna die” girl.
Plus, I want a bunch of Minions. To help clean the house and pop out of stuff and make funny faces. And when I can’t reach the ceiling fan to dust it they could all stack up and do it for me.
So I decided to pour my love of Minions and movies into cupcakes.
Minion Cupcakes.
Wanna know how to make them?
You need:
black liquorice
Black liquorice. I could only find this spiral kind at Candy Craze, but it separated fine.
twinkies
Twinkies.
smarties
Smarties, but only the white ones.
candy melts
Candy Melts. Chocolate, preferably but any color will do.
marker
Black food marker. I use Americolor.
What to do:
Bake up a recipe of your favorite cupcakes. If you’re in need of a recipe, I have several here, just click on the cupcake link on my side bar.
Frost your cupcakes with your favorite frosting.
Now it’s Minion makin’ time!! Cut your Twinkies in half horozontally, making sure you have a half Twinkie for each cupcake.
Using your black food marker, outline enough Smarties for each Minion to have two eyes and draw a black dot in the center. Use melted candy melts to attach another Smartie to the back to make the goggles.
IMG_6710 copy
The eyes/goggles should look like this.
Lay the Twinkie halves down flat and stick the eyes in place with candy melts. Cut black liquorice to fit the sides of the face for goggle straps and stick in place with more melted candy. Place in the refrigerator to set up.
Meanwhile, make the hair. Using a pair of sharp (and clean) scissors, cut the black liquorice to make little fring-ey pieces.
scissors
Like this. You want to leave about a quarter inch of liquorice intact at the bottom, it’s the piece you will insert in the top of the Twinkie.
Cut small pieces of liquorice for the mouths.
Remove Twinkies from the refrigerator and put mouths in place. You can either use melted candy, or cut a mouth shaped groove with a small knife and place the liquorice in the groove.
Stand Twinkies up and insert hair.
Place your Minions on your cupcakes and you’re done.
These things are so cute and yummy, I’m gonna die!!!
Happy Wednesday!!

About Kristan
I’m a proud housewife with a son in the second grade and a sweet baby girl. Like most little boys, my son funny and cute but a little weird. Which only makes me love him more. And the baby? Well...I know she'll sleep eventually. If I could, I would paint my life pink, sprinkle it with glitter, and give everyone a cupcake.

I feel so in the dark. Now I have to see the movie. My mom took my boy to see it (there are only so many animated movies a mom can endure over a ten week period!). I bet your son loved these cupcakes. Does he realize how lucky he is to have such a super cool sugar lovin' mom? If not, you need to keep reminding him!

How clever! And cute to boot! I have yet to see that movie but it's definitely on my list. Even though I don't have any kids to watch it with me.

Those are incredible! They are the best part of the movie. I like the one that got shrunk and has to sit in the other ones hand the whole time.

I LOVE your cupcakes! My husband and I took our son, (22-year old Army Ranger on home leave following his deployment) and we had the BEST time! Laughed together like we haven't laughed together in a long time (since he deployed.)

I am making these! My husband will fall out of his chair from the cuteness! I only wish my boy was still home…

    Thank you!

These are AWESOME! I don't even like twinkies, but I'm tempted to make me some minions! And since twinkies technically never go bad, I can keep them around as pets (or feed them to my coworkers…the unsuspecting minions). Thank you for the tutorial!
