Milk Dud Cookies

After six years of Nickelodeon, my kid is in school and I have my television back.

So I’m totally rediscovering soap operas.

And in this time of change in my life, it’s comforting to see that some things never change.

Weddings are still stopped by an ex-lover running in right as the big kiss is about to happen. Usually waving some type of incriminating paperwork that they were waiting to come through on the fax.

And it’s last minute because the person that was supposed to fax it to them had been chained up at the bottom of a well.

By their twin.

Who noone knew existed and had been living the life of his sibling.

UNTIL….the woman he was having an affair with followed him and caught him throwing crusts of bread down the well to his chained-up twin.

While he talked to himself about his whole evil plan.

And as his lover spy was flattened against the bushes (wearing her trenchcoat), she just happened to have her tape recorder handy. So, she taped it and used the incriminating tape to blackmail him.

She agreed to keep silent in exchange for him hacking into the hospital’s computer system and changing some paternity results.

But he got caught, was forced to tell the whole story, the person in the well was released and immediately ran to send the fax that was needed to stop the wedding.

And of course, the bride removed her elbow length satin glove and slapped the groom on the cheek with it.

Hard.

And helloooo, who doesn’t find that kind of dependability comforting?

Know what else is comforting? Cookies.

Especially cookies with candy hidden inside.

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup butter flavored shortening
1/4 cup margarine
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup of sugar, divided
3/4 packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Large box of Milk Duds

Preheat oven to 350.

In a mixing bowl, cream the shortening, margarine, 3/4 cup of the white sugar, and all the brown sugar until well blended.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Mix in vanilla.

Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt and gradually add to the creamed mixture. Chill for at least an hour.

Shape dough by tablespoonfuls around each Milk Dud so it’s completely covered. Roll cookie in remaining 1/4 cup sugar and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until edges turn golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes and then remove cookies to a wire rack.

Makes about 40 cookies.

These cookies are loved by kids and adults alike. They’re sturdy and non-messy, which makes them perfect for the lunchbox.

Soap Operas however, are not for kids. Seriously, have you seen what they use their office desks for?

Have a Happy Thursday!!

Thanks for reading!! I put lots of love into this post, so if you enjoyed it, please leave a comment, share, or subscribe. (As you can probably tell, I'm in constant need of validation, so this keeps me from questioning my self worth and crying into a box of wine) If, by some chance, you didn't enjoy the post, take it up with my personal zombie ninja.
About Kristan
I’m a proud housewife with a son in the second grade and a sweet baby girl. Like most little boys, my son funny and cute but a little weird. Which only makes me love him more. And the baby? Well...I know she'll sleep eventually. If I could, I would paint my life pink, sprinkle it with glitter, and give everyone a cupcake.

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes (all of them)! We are siblings of some sort because I downloaded the third hunger games to my nook. I'm sure the virtual cake was a sight to see! These cookies look fantastic, as always. Once I watched a soap when I was home sick. A year later I was sick again and turned it on. They were still on the same storyline.

Milk Duds are like 4-leaf clovers. It's rare that you'll open a fun-sized box and find 4 duds but when you do, it's a special day. It's only happened to me once.

That being said, yum. Milk dud cookies.

You forgot to mention when to add in the peanut butter. I imagine it goes with the sugar mixture?
