Monkey Bread
When I was a kid, I wanted a pet monkey.
I wanted one BAD.
I remember this pet shop I went to with my mom, and there, in a cage, was a cute little monkey.
I dreamt of giving this cute little monkey piggy back rides, and feeding him bottles. He’d wear a diaper, just like a little baby and I would be his mama and change it and take care of him. He would braid my hair, and we would play games together like Hide n Seek or Red Light Green Light and my life would be complete. So perfect was this dream of mine that I never even considered the fact that my mom would say no.
Why wouldn’t my mom want a little monkey around to keep her company while I was at kindergarten. Right?
Well, she told me why. And I have never looked at a monkey the same.
“Monkeys stink and throw their poop.”
I couldn’t believe it. I had dreamed of a soft, sweet, baby powder smelling, bundle of cuteness…..not a stinky poop thrower. So, with sadness and disappointment, I had to agree that maybe a baby monkey wasn’t for me.
With all that being said, let it be clear that no monkeys were involved in the making of this bread. Monkeys OBVIOUSLY have no place in the kitchen. This bread is named Monkey Bread because it is easily served and eaten by hand. This is one of my family’s favorite breakfasts, and although it is extremely easy (and cheap), it is a bit time consuming. But don’t let that stop you from giving it a try one of these mornings….it is well worth it.
INGREDIENTS
3 (12 oz) packages refrigerated biscuit dough
1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350.
Grease a 9-10 inch tube pan.
Mix the cinnamon and white sugar in a bowl. Cut the biscuits into quarters (I just use scissors for this). Coat 6-8 pieces in sugar mix at a time and arrange in the bottom of the pan. Continue until all are coated in pan.
In a small saucepan, melt the margarine with the brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and allow to boil for one minute. Pour over the biscuits in the pan.
Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. (I always set the tube pan on a baking sheet before placing in the oven to cook, it keeps the butter/sugar mixture from dripping everywhere). Let cool in a pan for 10 minutes and then turn onto a plate.
Make this for your little monkeys at home….they will love you for it!!
Happy Monday!!

Thanks for visiting my blog! I realize you could be doing more important things with your time. Like watching the news or washing socks. I hope you stay awhile. Much more fun than socks, I promise.

You are too cute. If I happen to find a well behaved, sweet smelling monkey that keeps his poop to himself you will be the first to know. In the mean time I must make this Monkey Bread. Yum!
I used to make this all the time, esp when the kids had friends over! A little hint, it is easy to cut the biscuits with a pizza cutter! Just an FYI!
Just so you know its only the boy monkeys that throw poop…the girl monkeys dont. Just like human kids the girls are sweeter and cleaner than the boys….so if u do happen to end up getting a monkey, get a little girl monkey! ;)
